The New Year is upon us and I remember how it all was last year. I was alone as usual and shed a few tears when I watched the ball drop on Times Square in my hometown NYC. People were everywhere and so happy. This year they said we can still the ball dropping but no one will be around. In a way, I find this is so sad and it just won't be the same to see an empty Times Square as the ball comes down.
My stepdaughter Mara wrote that in Latvia they are all expected to be by law inside on New Year's Eve from 10 PM to 5 AM and there are to be no fireworks. It made me think how my darling Martin would react to this and he would sarcastically ask At least can we get drunk? Especially where we lived in the suburbs the pleasure of greeting the New Year was to get out among the neighbors on the street and watch all the fireworks going off all around. Now there will be silence.
I almost feel like I am waiting for the other shoe to drop and I am afraid of what the will mean. I feel like Alice in a bizarre wonderland and so afraid that suddenly the Queen of Hearts will sneak up on me and shout Off with her head!
It reminds me of the song by The Vogues "Turn Around Look At Me"

"New Year's Eve" stopped meaning anything to me years ago! I went to Times Square one New Year's Eve about 1952--that was enough!
It's just another night now!

Yes, big changes this New Year, the fireworks will not be going ahead this year here, in my state of Victoria, in Australia.
Things change quickly, and hopefully, next year will be better.

I remember that song without even listening first. It was a good song.
Happy New year. Try not to be too sad. We're all in similar boats.

Seeing Times Square without any people will be so strange. I have a feeling that 2021 is going to be a better year.

The first day of the New Year always seems kind of strange to me and then I get used to it @dya80dya

@RasmaSandra I feel the same way every year. PTSD is hard to deal with this time of year. Turn the music up!
