Birthday Cake?

Hubby will be 75 on Monday.
Tonight I have made a big batch of cornbread. I hope he likes it. It used to be his favorite. The last time or two I made cornbread though, he has not been able to eat much of it and it has gone to waste.
I told him this is his birthday cake.
We have beans with lots of ham in them to go with the cornbread.
All we need is big glasses of milk, lots of butter, and maybe some canned peaches.
That is what is going on our table tonight.

He was having swallowing issues and had lost weight and his appetite was really diminished.

@dfollin He went to speech therapy to learn exercises to strengthen his swallowing. He has gained some weight back and is doing well.

@GardenGerty Oh wow! I hope he is better now. A friend of mine has those issues and he has to go have a procedure done where the doctor stretches his throat.

People's tastes change over time. He may love it, but now that he's getting older, the taste isn't there. Congrats on turning 75.

He has had some health issues and although he liked it, he was having swallowing issues. Tonight he ate two good sized pieces so I am pleased.

He has gained about twenty pounds and has had therapy to improve his swallowing.

@kobesbuddy I grew up in Oklahoma, but mama did not like beans. My first mother in law had five boys and the rule was she would make beans for a weekend meal and they could invite as many friends as they liked.

hope he 'twas able to 'njoy such, hon. dunno how such'd go to waste? i freeze mine 'n if'n not thawed/heated later 'n eaten, i use 't to make croutons.

He was able to eat it this time. I save mine to make dressing for chicken and turkey. However if he has taken a piece, buttered it, and/or heated it up and taken a bite, I throw it out for the wildlife if he does not eat it.

Peaches are a fruit that are sometimes preserved in a sugar syrup and canned. It is not the season to get them fresh.
