I Tried to Be Understanding But...

I tried to be understanding and patient with those who work in retail or grocery stores, but the lady at the register today was beyond rude. She literally threw the cat litter on top of a bag of chips, and yes she saw what she was doing, obviously she didn’t want to be there but she didn’t have to take it out on me. To say I wasn’t amused is an understatement, especially when she nearly broke open on of the boxes of Cat Liter. We weren’t able to make a complaint yet, but I have the number and the workers name and will complain, not to mention the cameras at the register, so maybe she was trying to get fired!

When I run into someone like that I ask him/her, "Are you having a bad day". It usually snaps them to attention; and they change their tune.

She just had a general bad attitude, if we asked her anything she didn’t respond though she obviously heard me!

Customer service isn't easy at the best of times. When I worked for Pizza hut, I found it very hard to keep my cool. And, that's well before this pandemic. She could've been having a bad day, and decided to take it out on you. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

@Michellekidwell I agree with you. I just see both sides of the coin, having been on both. I guess. No excuse for the behavior.

Thanks, I get it, but there’s really no call for handling things the way she did, someone could have hurt!

@kaylachan No there’s not, like I said I try to be understanding but when she starts doing things that can hurt others that’s when I have an issue!

I sympathize with them and how sometimes they take the brunt of a crazy retail day. However, their gripes will not be resolved if they act on it that affects someone who has nothing to do with their issues. I once had a cashier who was obviously not having a good day, and she almost dropped my eggs. I told her to be careful. She said sorry, and she's not having a good day. I asked her if everything is ok, and then it's a flood gate of complaints about her supervisor not allowing her to take her FMLA. I told her that slamming my eggs will not help her, but I gave her the DOL hotline for FMLA inquiries that will help her and explain her rights. She thanked me, and apologized again for her behavior. So acting out will not help anyone, and if she does not want to be there, maybe she should call in absent.

That's really rude and unprofessional. You are right in all ways to complain about it. She might have any agenda on her mind, but as long as she is there at the counter she has to be professional and well behaved.

Wow, that's certainly rude! In case she doesn't notice, it's easy to lose job these days. It's hard to get a new one.
