Day 147 Promise 606 2 Corinthians 10:17 But he who glories, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends. You all know people who boast about their achievements. When you first meet them, they seem harmless, but you soon realize they are all about themselves and not anyone else. Paul told the Corinthians not to glory, boast, in what they did, but let God commend them. As Christians how do you know when God commends you? You know because others recognize what you do. Several women called Peter to come to Joppa because one of their women had died. A disciple who did many good things for the Lord. Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and alms deeds which she did. 37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. 38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. 39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. The widows proclaimed the work Dorcas did for the Lord. When you do God’s work, He will bring you to the notice of others. You don’t need to go around beating your own drum and proclaiming for all to hear what you do for others and the Lord. Let’s pray: Father, let my work praise You. Let me be Your instrument of grace and beauty. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 5 January 2021 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

By nature man is boastful. He delights in his own work.

@Nakitakona No, she didn't. Her friends did the boasting.

@just4him But in the case of Dorcas, she did well and never boasted.

That's a beautiful thought and thanks for sharing it here. Our actions speak enough about us and we don't need to go around boasting and beating drums. But sadly people do that. It's just that we have people who want limelight and to be always felt important.
