Have i mentioned how much i love Genetic Genealogy!! Thanks to yet another DNA match and me always adding in more then just the blood family, i got an amazing email way back in April that for whatever reason i didn't see till today (THANKS ALOT ANCESTRY.COM CRAPPY MESSAGING SERVICE!!) Anyway to the amazing news!! So my Great Great Great Grandfather was Olaus Hans Bergstrom, for whatever reason when he joined the Swedish Navy there was already a Bergstrom on board, so he changed his last name for a time to Ahlstrom, during this time he also had his first of three marriages with Kerstin Andersdotter! he had two children from this union Gustaf Ludvig Ahlstrom Aug 25 1849 Johan August Ahlstrom born Feb 6 1852. Johan's descendants for the most part ended up in Jamestown, New York, none of them ever met Olaus 2nd family he had with Mrs. Anna Olson my Great Great Great Grandmother who's family primarilly ended up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. But thanks to wonders of DNA, and many, many emails of sharing information found between myself and Brian Samuelson we confirmed and connected the families, but one thing Brian and i remained curious about was, whatever happened to that eldest son Gustaf Ludvig?? Brian and his family still living in Sweden had traced every record they could in Sweden and all we knew was Gustaf Ludvig did immigrate to the US in 1872. Well thanks to DNA matches and the work of a descendant of Gustaf Ludwig we have discovered he changed his name to Lewis Stephen Hallback, Ludwig is often americanized to Louis, and Hallback was the first marriage of Kerstin, and the last name of her son from a prior marriage, this helped to connect why the last name may have changed, DNA confirmed through matches to several of our known descendants proved the connections, and death records confirmed the birth date of both men, so today i have discovered yet another branch of our Bergstrom family tree, even though the last name is not the same the Paternal line through DNA is, names may change DNA does not.... End of my Share

Very cool. You are extremely lucky to be able to trace your family back that far and discover a whole new line of relatives.

DNA is really helpful for matching the two people if they really in blood line. But little bit expensive isn't?
