Touch Me Not: 'Mammillaria'

I am introducing a new cactus from the small garden of my younger brother. I tried to check more about it. I found out that they are originated in Mexico. That's a piece of great information and it came a long way to the Philippines. In my mind, it will be appreciated by looking at it and not to be touched. No wonder why it was also called 'pincushion cactus.' It cannot be a wrecking ball for Miley Cyrus with this cactus. Would you like to have this kind of cactus?

That's a lovely one and I have seen them here at many places. Do they show some behavior when you touch them??

I think it is not like 'makahiya,' 'mimosa pudica' or shameplant that reacts when being touched. I do agree with you that it is a lovely plant in the nursery garden. Image Credit: worldofsucculents.com

@Shavkat lovely picture there. I often get mimosa pudica as weeds in my garden. So while taking out weeds, I leave a few of them. It's fun to watch them open and close with touch or even when raindrops fall on them

@arunima25 I haven't seen any mimosa pudica here in my city. They are abundant in the lowland areas.

I am not going to touch it. Probably yes but I will prefer to have plants which are flowery in nature

I don't want touching all kinds of cactus, I prefer to touch the shy daughter leaves.

@May2k8 I guess it needs to find them to isolated mountains here, which are too far from my city.

We can only see this plant in the lowland areas. I am fascinated by how they feel so shy when being touched.

@Shavkat Sometimes cacti have very insignificant flowers but others have really lovely blooms.
