I had a funny experience. I was in a meeting here, and a woman sit beside me, trying to talk to me and I said, can't speak Hindi So she said,Japan?ha.hait made me laugh I said no,Philippines. Some says I am from China, Some says I am Nepali. Again when I was boarding before from malaysia- Kolkata We are three ladies like the same age in a row. Even I cannot distinguished them, they are like Filipino,a thailander to me, I waited them to speak haha And the other one said, she's from butan lived in Malaysia, the other one is from India who lived in Singapore. Do you have any experienced regarding this topic?

I remembered the era when I was abroad. People from south India look similar particularly those with brown skin. Many times people from Kerala will come to me and talk in Malhali language thinking me to be Keralite. I do not have a clue about that langusge so I had to tell them that I am not a Keralite.

When I work at my old factory, some would say that I'm Nepali. But the company didn't hire Nepali females. I am 1/4 Chinese but it's not showing at all. I have high nose, big round eyes and almost fair skin. Not really typical Malay look. I also don't speak in Northern dialects at time. Yeah, like some would already know I am the weird one

Oh yes. Once an elderly couple asked me here, "what kind of Asian are you?" I find it both funny and a little bit insulting at the same time, but it did not turn into a bad experience. Some people mistake me for a Thai, A Mexican, Malaysian and there are few who can correctly guess that I am originally from the Philippines.

This is a very typical reaction, found all over the world, and it probably has its roots deep in human ancestry. The tendency to regard "the others" as an amorphous mass, each person indistinguishable from all the rest, helps to cement the bonds between the members of one's own group - who are distinct individuals to us - and allow us to regard the rest as enemies. This is one of the bases of modern racism - our group is special, being comprised of individuals, but the rest don't count because they are less worthy with none of them being any different from all their fellows.
