Okay, so a little more on passing out...

Because I passed out in my doctor's office Thursday morning (talked about it in my last post) before I had my appointment, they let me do an telemedicine appointment over the patient portal. The doctor was a little upset that the ER hadn't done anything but give me an EKG and let me go. He said my blood pressure was 80 over 40 (I thought it was 80 over 46), and my heart rate was in the low 50s.
Then, he said he didn't know if he should tell me this, but he thinks the doctors might have written me off because of something one of the EMTs said. My doctor gave an EMT a list of my medicines, and the EMT asked my doctor if I could have faked passing out.
What?! And if you are wondering, yes, it was a male EMT. Apparently, my long list made him ask that. How could I have faked low blood pressure and a slow heart rate? Some might say it was a question any EMT would ask, but my doctor certainly didn't think so.

Wow why would anyone want to fake passing out ? I'm sorry they didn't do much for you & just pretty much sent you on your way. How are you feeling now ?

The fake is that EMT, I would have my doctor file a complaint.

It sounds like you need a serious med adjustment. That EMT sounds ridiculous. I hope you don't have to deal with him again..Why the heck would anyone fake low pressure and a slow heart rate?? You aren't a monk practicing TM or something.

Given the numbers, I don't think it's possible to fake it. Now if your numbers were normal, then yes it's possible. Even slightly elevated to indicate a panic attack. At least your doctor has your best interest at heart. Makes me like the medical system less when E.R.'s write off patients.

What a stupid thing for that EMT to say! Are you okay now? Does your doctor have any idea why it happened?

I feel fine. My (pain management) doctor wants me to get some kind of heart monitor, but that would have to be done by a cardiologist. Which means I'd first have to see my primary care doctor to get a referral. It seems like a lot of trouble for something that seems so rare. However, since my doctor was so emphatic that I call my primary care doctor, I will, albeit reluctantly.

@1creekgirl Just once, a couple of years ago. The hospital did the same thing this time as last time.

@AmbiePam That's good you're going to follow up on that. Have you ever passed out before?

To fake passing out? They had to be very stupid to believe this happened!

How stupid was that to think that you faked it when your vital signs were so low? Amazing. Hope you've been OK since then.

I think that's horrible. How or why would you fake that? Most certainly hope that you are feeling better now

I don't understand some of the medical "professionals." We've experienced something similar, but with my son. He was having incredible pain in his lower abdomen and the PA (Physician's assistant) stated that he was faking to get out of going to school. (My son enjoyed school so we knew that was wrong to start with.) They asked him to give a urine sample and low and behold he passed a large stone with that sample. No apologies, no nothing, they still stood on the idea he was faking. (For any who do not know about kidney stones, even small ones can cause a lot of pain. The one he passed was large by medical standards.)

Having never been pregnant, I wouldn't know about this.
I feel blessed I've never had this issue. Just seeing my son dealing with it has been more than enough for me thank you. My brother has had to have some broken up in the past.
