Fighting a Rearguard Action, On Damage Control

Damage Control

The good seem to have more patience and wait for the storm to pass and then step in to repair the damage. By then the damage is done and time only to pick up the pieces. In our personal lives too, we bide our time to give others the benefit of doubt. I have faced issues during my forty five years of working life when I had known things were spiraling out of control but waited and hoped for good sense to prevail. These happen in politics as well when things get out of control but the good are in the sidelines waiting with bated breath rather than stepping in to stem the rot. By then the fence sitters jump into the bandwagon of the reckless lured by the spoils of the supposed change. Soon it becomes clear after the storm clouds pass that reality cannot be wished away. Some could be willing for higher intervention but that does not happen. We have built the hurdles and only we can dismantle them. The mental blocks have to be overcome by ourselves. The change has to come from us, within. Can the good take the lead? Can they convince the majority there is no magic wand and things can spiral out of control? Technology is an enabler for the good but also the bad. The good have a fight in their hand to keep one step ahead than behind thinking let the bad have their day too. Image: Rearguard Action

The good must try to be more proactive. They really are very passive sheep. However, the bad will always be bad. It’s in their nature and makeup.

Yes, by the time good swings into action, the damage is done. It has been a fact from time immemorial. We have to finetune and foolproof our system overall.

The good can wish for change until the cows come in. In fact, for the whole life of the world, they have been so wishing, and the world is still as it is. The good can not take the lead. The good should not be thinking of fighting. The real good just love all, and then let love do whatever it must do, instead of them trying to use even love, as a weapon against the bad. And, is it all that simple though? Can we label the good, good, and the bad, bad? Perhaps, only God could really ever separate the good from the bad. There is an add on our television here right now, where a young lady, with a severe disability, and is confined to a wheelchair, is still climbing mountains, and jumping from aeroplanes. She tells us at the end of the add, that: "We can do anything that we put our mind too. We only ever have ourselves to overcome, in our life struggles." All this sounds good, of course, but it is just not true. Our mind is just our mind. The world is the world. We are not the Gods here. Can we overcome God's will with our own minds? Can we override/ignore the directive guidance of our soul, for our lives, with our minds, until the end of our lives? Can we overcome the limitations of our bodies, and really ever really fight against a raging elephant, (and win) and overcome our physical limitations of strength, through our minds? Can we even say to this virus, with our minds, you cannot affect me, and it won't do so then? Can we say to a ruthless Government, do not put me in prison, when they are doing so for no reason, as in the case of Nelson Mandela? No, our minds are mere tools to our souls, not the rulers, and not the magical power apparatus's, that some claim them to be.

Thanks Steve, a thoughtful perspective about life in general that we find ourselves in. I have been facing issues like how the vast majority are under the thumb of a few who are up to no good, selfish, egoistic and greedy. Their actions heap misery on the rest who are just too nice to resist at least on time. I think the agenda of our action matters and it is not a rocket science for others to understand them. Scratch the surface and soon they become clear. However, those who mean well seem to be powerless or lack the will to bell the cat on time. I do not know whether it is god's will or our lack of purpose or the majority is too trusting and patient thinking the good will prevail in the end. I came across this quote - When good men do nothing, they get nothing good done. To be good, one must do good. The Lord commands his people to do good (Luke 6:35; Eph. 2:10). So I think we need to assert on time than allow brinkmanship to prevail as a matter of course. Agreed, it is not easy to have a perfect system and none will accept they are bad!

@Shiva49 It is hard to know why the good seem to lack power, and the bad is pushed to the top, in business, sport, and politics. Maybe they connect better to the king of power on their side, the negative forces of Satan, than the good do to their leader, God. Life is a symbolic battle between the heart and the mind, played out externally as well as internally, and consciousness is meant to be the go-between, bringing messages of hope to each side, because it understands both sides, as it consciously assesses the position on a greater scale of wisdomed learning, but when greed usurps control, consciousness is pushed aside, and ego takes over as the driver, and it only controls the mind, and so the heart is then left neglected completely then. Love is then pushed out of the picture of their life direction, almost altogether then.

@innertalks Yes Steve, it is more of end justifies the means with justice and fair play relegated. The present approach has loopholes aplenty for the bad to run away with the spoils leaving the good licking their wounds.

Nip it in the bud is what you are trying to say but alas those that are responsible what if they are in the majority and the powers than be be it the ED, CBI, SC are in the pockets of those who rule with majority what chances does anyone have to nip the rot in the bud?

In democracies, the majority should call the shots whatever it takes. The minority cannot prevail in the long run especially when the majority is assertive.

@Shiva49 That is why things cannot be nipped in the bud but nemesis will walk in before one knows it and I believe in it.

@allknowing Maybe, we have to keep finetuning the system till it works well. In a way, it is like the updates in our software to keep one step ahead of the hackers

Yes, this situation happens everywhere. The good is too passive at times and allows those with selfish agenda to dictate terms.

@Shiva49 While the good ones understand what is happening to them, the bad ones are playing a big round... it always has been and always will be, unfortunately. But the question is what is good for whom and what is bad..

My view about good and bad will be when we act for the benefit of not only us but for society in general, then it is for common good. When people do only for their benefit short-changing the vast majority, they have bad intentions. Actions motivated by love and compassion are good while those that are for ego and greed are bad. Ironically, even in democracies the bad are at the helm while the good on the sidelines.

@LowRiderX That is a curse everywhere except in a few where egalitarian democracy is practiced. The vast majority want to be left alone and know their leaders are hypocrites and selfish.

@Shiva49 I have the impression that things have been happening badly here in the country in recent years, most people only look at themselves, they have become somehow greedy, as long as that is the case, there is no prosperity for the state or the people.

I will simply interact with this by saying: we could overcome evil by doing good. It's too dangerous to kick against the prick.

Yes, the evil is just evil without love dictating their actions. They react like they are prone to, so it is up to us to be forewarned when we deal with them.

Once the emotions blow over, the fence sitters realize which side of bread is buttered. Some supposed leaders are able to exploit them.

There's the saying that for evil to prevail all that needs to happen is for the good people to do nothing. So true.
