What is your first thought when you see a cop pulled someone over?

Or, you're in the grocery store parking lot and you see them searching someone's car? For a car being pulled over, most people will think "Oh, they were speeding." As for a cop searching someone's car, the first thought is "Oh, a drug bust?" I was just wondering if anyone here thought something different. Does your mind automatically go to speeding or to a drug bust / DUI type thing?

I think the only thing I think is "better just go past and don't make a fuss and let them do their job". And don't stop to take photos which a lot of people do.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I usually never have my phone so I can reach while driving, but there's been some accidents caused by people doing that so I just try to keep as much distance as possible

@Torunn Oh yes, we arent' supposed to have our phone while driving here either. We can use a dash mount for our phone so we can follow navigation and we can talk as long as it's hands free. No texting.

Oh a lot of people here will slow down and pull their phones out to take photos. I can't say that it hasnt' crossed my mind to do the same.

You just never know these days what to think.

So true. Then there's always the cops that just stop to chat. I used to live in an area where the state troopers would do that if they were bored and knew the car.

@CarolDM I bet. Honestly, there's been a lot of fire truck and ambulance traffic around here lately. Christmas Day we heard a bunch of responders going through our neighborhood.

Most likely speeding. I couldn't think of anything worse.

I would stay away as there might be shooting. We'll never know if such things happen. Better to be cautious than curious.

I agree with you there. I remember as a young girl hearing gunfire in my neighborhood. I think at first I told myself that the sound was coming from the shooting range close to my house, but as I got closer and realized what was going on, I ran between the houses and took a weird way home so that if anyone was following me, I wouldn't be found.

@sunrisefan I'm so much older than I was then so I don't remember a lot of it. I think the one shooting had killed his father.

It is hard to say, but when they get pulled over the first thought for me is that they were speeding.

Right and a whole lot of times that's the reason. The more cops on the scene though, the more curious I get.

@MommyOfEli2013 Oh right, I did't think about tail lights but that's definitely a big reason people are stopped too.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh yeah, I am sure...sometimes it is just their tail-lights were out or something. Oh yea, if more than one is involved it does become curious

Mostly I think it's a misdemeanor.

@Nevena83 Ah I see. We definitely have people who deal in illegal substances here. One of my friend's ex boyfriends was picked up and because he violated so many times, he was deported back to Mexico.

@Nevena83 I think the police can shoot people who are shooting at them.

Yes. Honestly, I'm generally happy, as I see people going 110 mph in a 70 mph zone or texting while driving regularly. I often wonder why there are no police around.

We have speeders around our area too. A 45 MPH zone with a sharp curve just up the road and people are flying through it at 75 mph.

I don't remember the last time I saw someone pulled over, but I can remember the last time I saw someone in a parking lot being searched. My thought was, "wow, the cops didn't have far to go." We have a station right across from the grocery store I frequent.
