It's A Soup Kind of Day

Happy Friday Everyone! thankfully it's not as cold today as it's been all week but we have a rainy day ahead. Looks like a perfect day for soup. My oldest daughter gave me a ham bone so I'm going to make pea soup for dinner tonight. I find that pea soup is something you either love or hate. My love for pea soup came from my grandma and I guess I still feel the love when I make it. She used to make a huge pot (back in the old days), put it in jars and give it away to family. I can't make pea soup without thinking of her. Are you in the love pea soup category or the hate pea soup category? What's your favorite soup?

I hate pea soup, but there are many soups that I like, among my favorite creamy potato soup and French onion soup topped with bread and cheese of course.

@Marilynda1225 I agree that the "topping" is the best part of French onion soup. I have the potato soup a couple of times a month, when it's really cold outside.

The best part of French onion soup is the cheese and bread (yum) Potato soup sounds good but I haven't had it in a long time.

I'm in the hate group for pea soup. My favorite soup? Well, I wouldn't even consider it a soup really, but it's pepper steak. I haven't made it since I've been on keto, but I could adapt it to a keto diet by using cauliflower rice instead of regular rice.

@Marilynda1225 It really is. I've seen some cauliflower keto bread recipes recently and I have to admit to being curious.

Pepper steak sounds good even if it's not a soup. We have some cauliflower rice and have substituted it many times for regular rice. I love cauliflower cooked any way and it's so versatile.

I love pea soup! I don't have the bone, but I have some leftover ham from Christmas. It has been in the freezer. I was thinking of using some to make soup..but not sure I will now, maybe.

I've made pea soup with and without ham/bone. I've had the bag of peas in the pantry for months but always put off making it. Then my daughter gave me the ham bone and what else could I do with it?

@snowy22315 Gizmo is always in the kitchen when something is going on with the hopes of getting something. Mush could care less about eating and most nights she has to be coaxed to eat her dinner. But its starting to smell really good so ill be the one salivating

I'm in the love of soup category and I'll have a bowl with you later today once it's done. My girls like ours soup but my husband doesn't do I don't make it anymore. Plus the last few times the peas didn't soften as well as they did years back or for my mom. Maybe one day I'll try a batch in my insta pot and see if that takes care of that problem.

I'm sure your insta pot would make the pea very tender.

@Marilynda1225 that's what I'm thinking. I have carrots to use up and may or for that or stick to the chicken soup to also finish the celery and onion.

I love split pea soup, and I usually make mine with a ham bone and lots of ham. During the winter I eat a lot of soups.

@Marilynda1225 And tasty. My wife and I have a tendency to have most soups with crumbled saltines, a dollop of sour cream, and shredded cheese. It's always so good.

I've only used cream of mushroom soup in recipes but don't eat it as a bowl of soup. @NJChicaa commented that she makes her own. I bet it's delicious. Do you make your own soup too?

I'm on the hate side of the pea soup coin, sorry. But I am glad that you love it and are making some. There is something so therapeutic about making soup, letting it simmer all day long adding this and that as the day unfolds.

@Marilynda1225 My older brother and I are 11 months apart, I love milk and he hates it, he only drinks water in fact he has severe osteoporisis which is rare for a man in his 50's.

My family is divided on the pea soup too. One of my daughters loves pea soup and the other two hate it. The reverse is true of lentil. Weird that they all grew up in the same house and yet developed different tastes

@Marilynda1225 no I make it like my mom did with smoked ham hock and sometimes short ribs potatoes carrots and plenty of fresh spinach at the end. Then the soup is poured in the bowls with chopped hard-boiled egg and sour cream and the meat is eaten as a side,

My all time favourite is tomato soup. I also like hot and sour veggies soup. Never tried pea soup. So can't say. Even I have strong memories of my grandmother's cooking. And I can't cook few dishes without thinking of her.
