This year's CES was mostly a disappointment. Again. And I'm not even asking for much. My wants are simple and humble. A Quantum Computer, a Hollodeck, a flying car and a humanoid robot that is ready, able and willing to do just about anything. And what do I get? The usual assortment of incremental improvements in phones, televisions and computers. That's fine. All those things need to be improved. But in the end, it's just 1967 (The year of the first CES) all over again. Without the great music. But with most of the racially motivated violence. Thank you, "President" Trump. But there was one kind of genuinely newish surprise this year. The Moley Robotics Kitchen. There's a link at the bottom if you want to know more about it and actually look at it but the short story is that it's a primitive robotic chef. It's overpriced and leaves lots to be desired but it seems to be a step in the right direction. It's also what Alton Brown would call a unitasker. It'll make stuff in the kitchen but that's it. It won't mow your lawn or wash your car. Or even vacuum the living room. Even so, it seems to be the most advanced gadget of it's kind and it is getting us a tiny bit closer to living in George Jetson's world. https://www.ces.tech/About-CES.aspx

Just a quantum computer and holodeck, well that should be no issue. The robots still look a little funky though, they need to be more humanoid. Or not. Robotic kitchen is awesome. I wonder that people who get the first edition of it - it won't become outdated soon and people will be like "Oh yeah so and so has the old kitchen with the arms that come down from the ceiling"

It should be no issue but it is...I'm filing a complaint. I think it's going to be outdated in six months. Then it will be worth a fortune as an antique.

@xander6464 Lol. Oh yes how could I forget? Antique robotic kitchen arms circa 2021.... wonder what it would be replaced by. Maybe an android if we're lucky

One step closer to a George Jetson world is a good thing.

And it's about time. I'm getting tired of waiting.

@just4him We actually have quite a few already but they aren't exactly ready for primetime. Not yet, anyway.

@xander6464 Yes, it is. I hope they're working on flying cars.

I would like my kitchen complete with a robot to do the dishes...

@xander6464 With those claws on it I'm happy if it stays in the kitchen and doesn't make haste to help in the bedroom.

This is just first generation stuff. The bedroom helpers will have hands indistinguishable from human hands.

I've always wanted to live in George Jetson's world (minus the dog walking apparatus), but I will take the robotics kitchen for right now.
