The photo was taken a few years ago. That is Leah looking at me.
It is Saturday. It is the middle of January. The weather in my corner is mild. We had a frosty night but a mild day.
I am trying to stay afloat as I write this. I am trying to not cry. This is Leah's final Saturday. Pretty soon it will be her final Sunday then Monday then Tuesday morning.
I just looked at photos that are what remains of our trip to Salt Springs island, Canada. Such a green grassy time. A time of deep water and ferry boats- safely taking us and our car from the island to a larger island and finally a long sweet float back to America. I will keep those days in my heart and let them comfort me as I walk on through this present journey.

Leah will be greatly missed; but she will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Sending tons of hugs for both of you and all the strength I can muster I will pass along to you. :-)

She's a cute dog. And, when her time comes she will be greatly missed. Enjoy the time well.

@Kaylachan Leah is cute. Thanks. She has been a huge help for me at times when I have had trouble walking.

@sallypup If I may ask, what's wrong with her? And, am I right to assume you'll be putting her down Tuesday?

@kaylachan Thank you for your politeness. You are appreciated. Right before Halloween I brought Leah to the Vet cause her eye looked inflamed. It wasn't an allergy. It was a fast growing cancer. Yes- on Tuesday afternoon the Vet will come give Leah her final relief. She is strong and healthy otherwise. But if I were her with a trashed eye and huge growth on her face? I would want to go. Its progressing into her muzzle, too.

I had deliberately not answered this one.
It reminded me.too much of our last few days with Felix.
Leah will be sadly missed, I know that is stating the obvious.
But what I wanted to ask you was this.
Do you think Leah might have sensed her time was short?
Maybe she sensed you were a bit different than usual?
Maybe.she sensed your upset state?
I think Felix did.
I think Felix knew all that.
I have wondered if Felix knew we were doing what we think was the best thing for her.
It's sort of been haunting me a bit.
R.I.P Leah, and Felix.

@JimBo2020 You ask good questions. Leah was down cast all morning before the Vet showed up. She had her head down the entire time. I'm sure she could sense that I was sad cause both dogs are so empathetic with us humans. Or she just hurt like heck even with pain pills. I am sorry I caused you emotional pain. I truly am. I also am deeply sorry about darling Felix. I have no idea what having a golf ball sized tumor growing on the side of my trashed eye would feel like. We humans get handed the nasty jobs. Hugs to you. I'm truly sorry you've lost your dear Felix.

@JimBo452020 One of the hard parts to this day after is that Sally dog does not understand so she often looks at the front door for her big sister. We don't say Sister's name cause Sally knows it and that would just cause more hardship.

Aye, Felix had a tumour on her leg for a couple of years.
Felix knew we were sad
You didn't cause any emotional pain,
Similarities though hard to miss.
We wanted one last weekend with Felix
9 weeks ago she went away.
We miss her
As you will already miss Leah

I'm sending a big hug, these are the hardest decisions we ever make. I know she has had a wonderful happy life and been well-loved, what more could anyone ask for?

I am glad you have pictures to comfort you. Making those final plans are hard. I remember with Princess.
