A Little Story

This is a true story.
I don't drink. When I was little, my mother would laugh because I could get drunk smelling the bottle cap from a bottle of beer. Truth.
When I joined the Navy, I had a short time period when I did drink. What sailor doesn't drink? My favorite drink at the time was a Tom Collins. I've since learned that gin is a favorite drink among my family members. However, on this particular occasion, I drank beer.
I was out with my boyfriend to the base club. The drinking age at the time was 18, which is what I was at the time. He got me a glass of beer. It took me a while to drink it because I'm not a beer lover. Anyway, I finished that one and he got me a second. I drank only half that one and I was plastered.
When we left, I told him I was standing duty later that night. He promptly took me to the Acey Duesy Club and proceeded to pour coffee into me. I don't drink coffee either. So, the coffee was one-quarter cup, with just as much cream and probably as much sugar. I don't know how many cups I drank, but I went out back of the Acey Duesy Club after each cup to throw up my guts near the dumpster.
When he dropped me back at the barracks so I could stand duty, the person on duty noticed I was still drunk and wrote me up. I didn't stand duty that night.
A few days later, I was called to a meeting for my misbehavior while in a duty status. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Duty status is from 0000 to 2400. The meeting was a Captain's Mast. I was told not to conduct myself in such a way again. If I kept myself clean for six months it would be off my record. I could have lost a stripe for my actions, but didn't. They couldn't bust me because I was still a recruit. A one-striper.
I think that was the last time I drank. My drinking life lasted a whole six months. The Captain's Mast was at the end of those six months.
I still don't drink either beer, hard liquor, or coffee.
Thank you @akalinus for the suggestion of Little Stories. What's your story? Thanks for reading. The picture is me.

I am glad that you did not get bounced out or demoted. I used to drink when much younger. I was partial to sloe gin fizzes. I stopped to give a good example to people around me who tried to quit. I won't get into all that but drinking does ruin lives.

Thank you so much Valerie for sharing that part of your life with us. I went through a period in college where I drank and smoked gras and tried other things. I cannot remember when I stopped that period but I hate liquor of any kind and would only like medical marajuana these days and I also do not drink coffee or tea anymore. That was quite a story. What happened to the boyfriend? Did you dump him for wanting to get you drunk?

I'm not sure that I remember hearing that you served in the Navy, thank you for your service. It doesn't take me much to feel today but I don't think I've ever been drunk.
I'm surprised you were so sick while drinking the coffee yet still drunk enough that the person noticed.

Looking back makes us smile alone, laugh alone. Remembering scenes in the past makes us feel young again most especially when we'd done funny stories to tell today. During my student life, I was in a laboratory class, one of my classmates took out the glasswares from the autoclave or oven and placed directly into the dessicator or vacuumed silicon sealed glass container, however the silicon paste was not enough to prevent the cover from sliding out of the glass body and so the pressure of the heat from the placed glasswares pushed the cover to fly away. My classmate was so shocked and did not know what to do, if she would put down the glassbody or run after the cover before it could hit the floor. She was in the hallway that made everybody freezed, looking at the flying glass cover. Good enough that the cover was too thick that it did not break.

@just4him the glass cover of a dessicator is too thick to prevent the escape of the heat coming out from the heated glasswares. It is attached to the glass body using silicon paste, when the paste is not enough to stick it to the body then it will slide.
