Bad Weather

Here in Alabama, we have been having temperatures of 40s and low 50s. All of a sudden, yesterday, it had warmed enough that we didn't need jackets. We turned off heaters. We pulled out the short-sleeved shirts. Of course, we are used to bi-polar weather here. But yesterday, you could just smell that bad weather was coming. I told my daughter that with how warm it had, all of sudden become, I think we must have bad weather coming. Yet, other than some strong wind, last night, it was calm and comfortable. Then I woke up to a report that a tornado had touched down in a couple of cities north of us causing significant damages in those areas. Nothing is ever sure. The expected brings trouble. The unexpected brings trouble. It is important that we live life to the fullest, love our family and friends, and never pass up an opportunity to hug one another, to spend time together laughing and enjoying life. Today it is raining and our school plans have changed. I was taking my students on a walk on the Christmas trail. Yes, I still have my Christmas decorations up. They will come down this weekend and up will go Valentine's. Anyway, we were going to grill hot dogs in the words, play games, explore, have hot chocolate and cookies. I guess I will be changing things up since it is raining. I am just thankful for the privilege of teaching my gang. How is everyone else's weather?

It’s typical Kentucky winter roller coaster weather....50s today, 30s and snow tomorrow. I was up half the night watching the coverage of the tornado that hit Fultondale online (James Spann is incredible to watch in these terrible events) and listening to the scanner reports. Very thankful that tornado missed you!

Kentucky weather sounds like Alabama weather. I have a friend whose family live in Fultondale. She was so worried about them, but the storms missed them.

@gnatsmom — I’m in Birmingham (south of the city, near Pelham) on my way to warmer weather. I passed the Fultondale exit, and it was surreal.

Mild weather is nice, especially when you have little ones who want to go outside and play.

@TheHorse When we lived in New York, we got to make snow men. My kids loved it. In Alabama, snowmen do not exist. My whole gang likes the warm weather better.

My students had a great attitude. Instead of complaining cause we couldn't go today, they just said we can go on the next school day. I am blessed with good kids.

I'm always thankful that we don't have tornadoes here. I think that would be very scary.

Maybe your activity with the children can be postponed a week. My husband is from Alabama, he didn't like it there.

We just changed it to indoor activities. We will make up for it during the spring when pool and beach time is a way of life.

One of my student's parents just told me that it was going to get up to 75 degrees today, and be back down in the 20's tomorrow.

I read about the B'ham tornado. Hope you are safe. We had tornado warnings in TN and thunderstorms, lightning, all night.

The tornados were north of us and completely missed us. Were you able to sleep with all the warnings? I have friends and family who can not sleep if the wind is strong or rain is heavy. Bad weather scares them.

@gnatsmom We turned off the alarms when we saw it wasn’t coming here.
