How to have a white Christmas

This made me laugh today so I thought I would share it. My friend just emailed and told me that he and his partner have been keeping their spirits up (during lockdown here) by devoting a day every weekend to having a mini Christmas (a couple of presents, wine with a roast lunch and a comforting film in the afternoon and sometimes even a snooze). This Sunday they had their first white Christmas. Turns out the trick is to keep on having Christmas until it snows! I thought that was really funny - but also true of course! Maybe we should all do it! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

We invented a special celebration, something that it's not a official holiday and we celebrate when we feel that there is a reason to celebrate. We called it "the lit candle day".

@Fleura You are not always in the mood to celebrate when it is an official holiday.

Sounds a good idea to me - but perhaps we'll skip the 'keep having it till it snows' bit.

Good idea. First of all your dream of having white Christmas will be fulfilled and secondly you can enjoy the lockdown period which is getting too boring.

There is the German word 'Lebenskünstler' which has no English translation. It's defined as 'a master of the art of living.'

Do you think my friend has become a Lebenskünstler?

@Fleura It sounds like that although, too much of a good thing cannot be recommended. I think a lot of the fascination of Christmas or birthdays is due to the fact that they come but once a year.

@WorDazza I need to try harder not to get bogged down in everyday tasks and make time for relaxation. My to-do list never seems to get much shorter!

The power of suggestion. I stopped liking snow when I graduated high school, had to drive to work in it, and it became my job to shovel it But I like all the other stuff they did to keep that Christmas spirit alive.

I’ll pass on the snow, thank you very much, but that’s a cute idea. We have Friday night date nights and Saturday nights in these days. We make them special.
