Day 169
Promise 630
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and you may live long on the earth.
You learned right from wrong as young children from your parents. If you disobeyed, you felt the consequences of your disobedience.
God gave Moses a set of commandments for His people to obey. Among them was the commandment for children to obey their parents. God attached a promise to the commandment. It is the only commandment with a promise.
Exodus 20:12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.
Paul told the Ephesians about God’s promise of long life when they obeyed their parents. Because Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles, they didn’t know God’s commandments or the promise it contained.
As Christians, you know God’s commandments and His promise for long life when you obey your parents. You don’t cease being a child when you become an adult. You are still subject to your parents. Not in the same way as when you were little children. However, you are to honor them, respect them. It is God’s command. When you do, God will give you a long life.
Many people believe respect is earned. In some cases, it is, but not with your parents. Respect is a command from God. When you respect your parents, God will reward you with long life.
Let’s pray: Father, Your promises are yea and amen. Help me honor my parents. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Jesus Christ, though, did not live a long life, and yet he totally respected his father, and honoured God always, in his life.
Jesus, though, had a special mission for God, and so his life was cut short for a purpose.
A long life is not necessarily one in long years then, but it can be also one that long lingers in the minds of others for the strong influence your life has had on others, and so your life is your actual life, plus how long it lingers in the minds of others, after you have gone too.
Jesus Christ's life was very long, in this regards. It will linger in people's minds for ever.

@just4him Yes, Jesus, is the son of God, but his life here on Earth, was lived, like us, as a human, and I often wonder why his life was so short.
Peter, his disciple, lived a lot longer a life, before he was crucified too, for example.
Jesus could have done a lot more, and as Paul did, spread the message a bit wider, himself too, if he had lived longer, say to 50, or more.
God, must have wanted Jesus, his son, back in Heaven again, sooner, rather than later...lol...

@innertalks Jesus had only one purpose, well two, to teach the people about the kingdom of God and die for the sins of the world. When He accomplished the work set out for Him, it was time to go home.
When we accomplish the work God set out for us, it will be time for us to go home too.
