Volunteering abroad

From the beginning of this year I have been having a craving to go volunteer somewhere in a foreign country. The problem is I have no idea how people go about it. How do the people who volunteer survive? What happens to their source of livelihood. What happens to their families?

I don't have any information on that. But I guess you can find some useful resources online. And be a little cautious to not fall in trap of any scam.

I think it depends on where you want to go and what kind of volunteer services you want to provide. Maybe you can search some organizations in your country that can help you. Some international NGOs accepts volunteer that is sent to other country of destination. The volunteers the NGO I worked with before shoulder their own expenses or they get some sponsors for the expenses. When they got here, they live with a host family.

@rakski now that the volunteer is not earning anything how does he/she afford their personal needs e.g for a lady she might need things like pads etc. I believe the host family will just provide food and shelter.

That is something you should know about before making such decision. I'm sure there are a lot of websites that could answer you about that particularly the organization in a country to where you wish to volunteer.

As long they are getting a good meal it does not matter how many times a day.
