We are in lockdown....I did something stupid....

I was meant to start another week of Prac at the childcare centre today but we all received emails from our teacher saying that due to the lockdown, (that started yesterday at 6pm) we cannot go. According to what I heard, a security officer was working on the same floor where another person was staying, who was already positive with the UK strain of Covid. I heard he was a security officer for the hotel where people were being quarantined. Not too sure about that. I've heard bits and pieces but either way, we are in lockdown.
My dad, brother and I went shopping tonight and it was weird. Everyone HAS to wear a mask during this lockdown (which is only 5 days unless more cases arise). I know this is happening in other places where you have to wear a mask I just mean this is a first for Perth. It was weird wearing a mask but it made me smile when I saw others wearing masks as it shows people working together. Can't say the same for grocery stores though. Lots of shelves completely empty.
The stupid thing I did though, and for my defence, this is my first time being in a mandatory mask wearing situation
and hard to break a habit but while I was in the store, I saw a staff member who I see often and I smiled at him....while....wearing....a....mask.
I felt stupid. Then I worried because my eyes kinda close a little when I smile so it probably looked like I was glaring at him.
Not much else to say. I know I have so many notifications to catch up on and I will get to them all as soon as possible. For now, I'm going to eat, watch a YouTube video and workout. So if I don't come back on tonight, I will tomorrow for sure.
Til then, hope you're all well! Catch you later!

@just4him Thank you kindly Valerie. That is true, it sure can be encouraging to see people smile! With or without masks, it's just a nice thing to do.
I hope one day masks can be a thing of the past. Especially for places such as where you are who've been doing so for so long.

@Treborika Thank you. This was awhile ago now. To be honest, lockdowns have never bothered me but I feel bad for those who it does affect. It's sad.

@Treborika I was not working during this time. I've not had a job in quite some years now.
I didn't mind the lockdown because I do not go out much so I was already used to staying at home.

I smile at people al the time through my mask (which, by the way, we have been required to wear for almost a year now). I think once you get used to seeing other people in masks, you start to be able to tell when people smile at you. I know I can tell when people smile at me, even with the mask on.

@moffittjc My goodness. Almost a year. That is crazy. (not the masks being worn as crazy I mean it's unbelievable how long that has been going on). Too bad not everyone can just simply follow along to wear a mask!

@VivaLaDani13 Well, apparently, wearing masks did absolutely nothing to slow down the spread of the virus. And now the authorities are saying that wearing 2 masks is the answer. Which basically tells me they really have no answer whatsoever. A monthlong worldwide lockdown is what we need to end this thing once and for all.

@moffittjc I don't blame you for thinking along those lines. And I agree with you! That is exactly what I said to my dad not too long ago. I know it would be tough but it's something I also believe could make a major difference.

@ZedSmart That is a good way to express a greeting too!
Is there a rough estimation for how long you'll need to wear the face shield for?

@May2k8 oh I see!
Yes that's right. It's funny because before any of this, it would have seemed a bit odd wearing a mask but now it's the new normal.

We have been wearings masks now for months and months every time we go out this that the other so if I smile I never bother about what anyone else might think.
I think we can all look funny as its hard to feel at home wearing such a thing even after all this time.

I suppose so I can never get used to these masks never even though I put it on.
I do try to keep a straight face.

@marlina I smiled while wearing a mask. The person I was smiling at wouldn't have known I was smiling at him as my face was covered.
That's why I say I did a stupid thing because I'm not used to wearing a mask. I should have known my smile wouldn't have been seen since it was covered.

@LadyDuck That is sweet about still smiling. Funny enough my teacher today said that when we were wearing masks that she felt silly smiling too. But a smile is never really wasted anyway.

Glad I'm not the only one to smile with a mask.

@paigea That is good to know!
I am very grateful for where I live and it has made me appreciate Perth a lot more. (not that I ever really took it for granted but I hope you know what I mean). But I do feel awful for any place around the world who are having difficulties lowering cases. It's sad and worrying.

I don't think you should worry about the smile. I think the eyes would be a bit different if you were glaring at him. You could try it in a mirror but that might just confirm your suspicions.
Here in the south-west, we're in lockdown too but we'll have to go shopping for bread. We'll get extra and freeze it - if we can of course. It's crazy how people start hoarding stuff.

@JudyEv That was a great idea about the mirror! Thank you. Even though we don't have to wear the masks anymore, I still want to try see what I look like in my mirror.
That's what we did (freeze bread) to save us from going out again. I agree! So much was gone when my dad and I went to IGA when the lockdown started! It's not necessary.

What? You hadn't had a mandatory masked situation yet?
We cannot go out without wearing one ever since the first lockdown was announced in March 2020. We will get fined. We are now used to it.
