Japanese Tea Set

Japanese tea set

Thanks to Diana, I remember this tea set I got from my parents-in-law when my husband and I moved to our first home as a married couple. The Japanese tea set was from my mother-in-law and because I kept on admiring them when we visited them, she gave them to me. I was very happy. I think this set is more than 50 years old. Antique, isn´t it? I have used this tea set when I have visitors who love to drink tea with us ages ago but since we are used to using a mug for tea, this tea set was forgotten until now. Thanks, Dianne for reminding me of some of my memories in my early years in Germany. Have a nice first day of February everyone. I hope we will have a good month.

I’m so glad you posted it. It’s gorgeous! I used my set last night. I decided to make use of things instead of saving everything as my mother did.

I am so glad that you have reminded me of this tea set @DianneN. Thank you. I am planning to use it myself. My mother used to save things instead of using them. Some are still in the packages at my home.

@thelme55 Beautiful things are meant to be used. I’m sure you will find a treasure trove when you return.

@DianneN I agree. That is why I started using my beautiful things. I am sure of that. There is always a treasure when I return to my 2nd home. Maybe the fruits that I have planted are bearing fruits again.

The antique that I have back home are one peso coins in 1907, 1908 and 1910 given to me by my late mother. Before she passed, she gave me and my siblings one roll each which probably contained about 30 coins. I gave 13 of it to my younger daughter to use as her arrhae during her wedding in 2016.

Wow! I like that @sunrisefan. I have old coins from my wedding but they were from the 70´s and 80´s not as old as what you have.

@thelme55 I've made some research when I was still back home and I found that the coins could be bought by a few hundred dollars. I hope it's true but I'd still like to hold on to what's left because they're memories of my mother. She even gave me her Chinese gold (?) wedding ring which I also kept. I don't think my daughters would have interest in these. My sisters and I value things even how small they are. I would even keep a simple key holder that I would receive from a friend. When I'm gone, I think the things I kept would also be gone.

@thelme55 I think I'm a keeper of memories. Old school you may say and the present generation would laugh at people like me. Would you believe I still kept the second item I bought out of my salary which is a Sanyo cassette recorder coming from the Zamboanga barter trade? The very first item I bought from my salary was a Seiko wrist watch which I used for over 10 years. The third item I bought was a Honda XL100 motorcycle which I used for 17 years which I was forced to sell because it was dangerous to ride on it with my wife and two daughters. My for acquisition was a piece of land on which I built a small bungalow when I was still single and lived there alone for almost 4 years. 42 years after, that same house still stands and that's where we continue to live in.

Such a lovely tea set. I also fond of collecting different tea sets and have those displayed in the cupboard cabinet.

It is certainly very pretty. Technically an antique is 100 years old but certainly, these look to be from about the time of WWII.

@thelme55 Does it have any marking on the bottom. that may make identifying the date easier. I was an antique dealer for many years.

@BelleStarr It has a marking on the bottom but I can´t understand it as it is Japanese or maybe Chinese. No idea what language is on the bottom of the tea cup.

Thank you @BelleStarr. Thanks for the info about 100 years to be called an antique. Maybe it is about the time after WW2. I don´t really know as the tea set came from in-laws.

Love your tea set!!! I am a tea addict - I usually consume 2-3 cups of green tea daily

Thank you @freelancermariagrace. 2-3 cups of tea doesn´t make you an addict. I drink 6-8 mugs of different kinds of teas daily. I don´t consider myself addicted to teas.
