What Do You Call the Comics in the Newspaper

When I was a kid we called them the Funnies or Comics. Since I've been grown, I've only heard them called Comics. Then one day I heard two people call them the Funnies and Cartoons.
What do you call them? Is it different from when you were a kid? Supposing you're older than dirt to answer that last question.
Thanks for reading.

We called them comics and that's what I still call them.
Uhm... "older than dirt"? Who you calling old?

@just4him Hmmm... maybe people older than you, but definitely not you!
I don't read newspapers and haven't in years. I hear too many sad/tragic stories from people around me... I don't want to read about them, too. (If/When something happens that Pretty thinks I should know she tells me.)
I do read comics online though.

@DaddyEvil My friend at the pool gives me the Sunday comics. It's the only part of the paper I read.
Thank you.

It's good some things never change.

I was referring to myself and people older than me who still get the Sunday paper. Do you fit that category? I expect most people don't get the paper anymore with today's technology. I could be wrong.

@just4him We got the local paper occasionally but that's it. It was always a problem for me when I was given a school assignment such as to 'write a piece for a newspaper reporting arrival of an alien spaceship' or whatever weird thing my teacher dreamt up - I didn't know what sort of style they were expecting.

I remember some of the local radio stations calling the newspaper comics the Sunday Funnies even though some of the comics including the Spider Man adventures.

@just4him Spider Man appears in some newspapers around the nation. It is in the Lake Charles market but not in the New Orleans market.

Inquiring minds want to know
I've heard both terms but I always referred to them as the comic section of the paper. But a popular phrase was "see you in the funny papers" a way to say goodbye to someone.

@dgobucks226 I think that's the order my dad read the paper too and then went to the front page.

I think I've always referred to them as comics. See ya in the funny pages used to be a way of saying goodbye, though.
