Should I wait to get a new dryer?

If you have a washer and dryer and one of them needs to be replaced it is better to replace both at the same time, especially if the other appliance is old.
Back in 2018, when my washer needed to be replaced, I asked my parents to replace the dryer as well as it was old but they didn't want to do that as it was still working.
Now the dryer no longer works. And we need to get a new one. I wanted to get an LG dryer that matches the LG washer we have but it is not available. Probably because the washer I have is no longer available either.
The LG dryer I found that more or less matches the washer I have is $899. And it is actually the cheapest LG dryer available. Delivery is free but once you figure in the other add-ons like tax and installation charges that total becomes much higher. Over $1400 actually. That is crazy!
I found the receipt from the washer and that total was under $1000. However, I do not see any installation charges on it. I wonder if it was free to install it or if it is just not included in the receipt.
At any rate, in comparison to what it cost to get the washer, the dryer is much more expensive. I wonder if I should maybe wait until Presidents' Day weekend to get one. Hoping there will be a sale. But I'd have to wait till February 13th-15th. Unless they start it earlier. That would be great actually as I have stuff I need to wash.
How I wish that my parents had gotten both appliances at the same time. I think they would have saved money and I wouldn't have to deal with this now.

@lovebuglena This is also my opinion, we bought the pair when we bought the house in 1999, I could never find the same model to replace one of the two should it break.

If you can afford it then that is the best option.

Online advice is to replace both when one stops working... Of course the manufacturer would say that. they want the added sales!
I bought new washer and dryer three years ago. The pair I had before that didn't match since a washer will last longer than a dryer, usually. (Online says around 10 to 12 years for both.) The last ones were Maytag and lasted almost 20 years. The ones I have now are Speed Queen. Their average lifespan is rated at 25 years.

@lovebuglena Here, both Lowe's and Walmart carry Speed Queen appliances. (They are cheaper at Lowe's.
But not really cheap, though.)
I suggest you check out reviews for the different brands you're considering before you purchase. That way you get a general idea of what to expect before setting foot in a store.

But that is good advice. Not only will you have a matching set but also you save on installation and you don't have to worry about replacing anything for a while.

I want it to be LG because it is a good company and the washer is LG. The one I found is the cheapest one.

I think Dianne's suggestion is a good one. If you must have the dryer match the washer, then you purchase the washer when your parents buy the dryer.

The washer was purchased in July 2018. No need to replace that. The dryer I found is close enough. Besides, it's my parents that are buying it so they will not buy another washer.

@lovebuglena No, you definitely don't need to buy a washer.

I am funny about appliances like this. One, because I am cheap as hell. lol. BUT, I never buy new. The last dryer I bought I paid about $150 for it at a used appliance store, and I have had it running fine now for four years. The one before that lasted about three. I paid even less for that one.
If I were buying new I would definitely wait for the best deal so long as you can wait. But I would also likely never buy new.

Don't want used appliances. Never know how good of a condition they are in and how long they will last. I am trying to wait until Presidents Day to see if prices will be discounted. I hope I am not waiting for nothing. Downside is that I have laundry to do and it will take a few days for laundry to dry. If I wash all my PJs, and I need to, I will have nothing to wear for a few days. Don't like sleeping without my PJs. I guess I can always wear the PJs for warm weather but don't want to have to do that.

@porwest I'd love a new top notch brand for the price of a used one. Does that option even exist?

@lovebuglena I hear ya, but I can tell you that as someone who has used used appliances my entire life...
They last just fine and cost a fraction of what new stuff costs. But that's just me.
I am SURE my wife would like newer, better appliances. I'd rather have money in the bank. And so long as my clothes are clean and dry...
I could care less if I paid $200 for it or $1000 for it or if it is 10 years old or brand new. lol
My sister had a really fancy electronic set she paid $3000 for. It leaked, got moldy, the electronic pads went bad, and she was done with it in three years. They still mostly worked, but she was tired of them. lol

@lovebuglena Do what feels right for you. Replaced the washer not long ago, still have the old dryer, running fine.

@CarolDM The washer we got in 2018 so that's new I'd think. We only need the dryer replaced.
