Once upon a midnight... Wait, sorry..
Once upon a time it was frowned upon to smile. Or so history says. I have seen some photos of folks smiling in the yonder years.. But, let me just cut to chase.
Apparently, Cheese is a newer term photographers use to indicate a person should smile for their photo. A london photographer in the late 1800s instructed his customers to say Prunes
(actually, I love prune juice.. I'm weird like that)
Say the word Prune Did you notice the moue face you made? That pout or pucker of the lips? That was the desired thing in yesteryear.
or so says the internet.
Did you find this fact funny or ridiculous?

it reminds me of the duck face / lips that were popular a few years ago with younger ladies.

Neither. More interesting that they're be willing to a Pickering up face in their photos unless they didn't look at it that way.
Now instead of telling a grandchild to pucker up I'll just tell them to say prune
I like prunes but I don't drink the juice.

I'm not sure I've ever had a prune. I've drank the juice though I don't set out to buy it either.

I can not see myself saying "prunes" at all.

I think that children should be the only ones photographed with pouting lips. I know some mothers and grandmothers like to take a picture when the child is in a temper tantrum. I'm sure we have a few of those of myself and other relatives around here somewhere.

@LadyDuck Temper tantrums were not allowed to go on for long in my family. Even so, my grandmother especially, liked to take photos of us when we were throwing a fit.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have to say that I never liked to see children in a temper tantrum, we have none of those photos.

I find it very interesting. I eat prunes every day, by the way!

unique fact, I just found out this fact, because I don't really follow things about photography, even for the word cheerse and prunes they set it as the code for smile, a stylist really has to direct the object of the photo so that it looks good

Oh yes! I think photographers who work with children must have the most patience. I would not be able to handle temper tantrums and distracted children so that I can get the perfect photo.
