The problem with spicy food

Last night I opted for an Indian style meal. I like spicy food, although the girls are not keen but I’m gradually persuading them to try different things. So for dinner we had chicken pasanda, swede and spinach curry and Bombay potatoes. I’ve made Bombay potatoes a few times before, but usually I boil the potatoes first and then read the instructions and realise, too late, that I should have added turmeric to the boiling water. This time I was better prepared and added it at the right time. The downside to this was that, when I drained the cooked potatoes in the sink, the turmeric stained it yellow and it hasn’t come off yet! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

Do you have bleach? Pour bleach and water and let it stay for a few hours, this works.

@marlina I add bleach in the toilet bowl once a month and leave overnight to get it perfectly white.

One of the negatives of turmeric. Not to worry it soon goes with a wipe of bleach and a bit of elbow grease!

After thought! : The other thing we use is Milton ( the same thing they used for baby bottle sterilising) we use that every so often to clean cutlery that gets rid of any stains.

Try something with a grease made scrub. I use Dawn dish soap but some times I have to get these blue scrub ladies that has heavy cleaner and then rinse the sink out with warm water after I’m done use it.

@fleura When making spicy food it’s always a good idea to put the toilet roll in the fridge for later in case you’re too heavy handed with the chillies.

I remember an Australian colleague once described a meal as a 'dunny-paper-in-the-fridge-job'. Luckily I don't seem to have had that experience.

Oh no! Is it a porcelain sink? I see Anna had some advice. I hope it works.

I don't actually know what it is made of, I think it must be some kind of resin (we didn't install it). It is fading now but I will give it a once-over with some bleach too.

I love turmeric, but it really makes a problem with its color.

I like it too, and it's supposed to be healthy also. But yes it certainly stains some things such as plastic spoons or jugs.

That’s why I prefer stainless steel kitchen sinks. Have you tried a Magic Eraser ?

I agree, stainless steel is easy to clean without worrying you are damaging the surface. I don't actually know what this is made of. Luckily it has come off now with just normal use and cleaning.

I would have used a baking soda and peroxide mixture. It works on everything.
