Why did it take so long?

Ever since the pandemic started everyone is praising the first responders and giving them this for free and going to games for free? Why did it take so long to recognize these hard workers? Firefighters have been risking their lives for many years. Hospital workers are always busy because the er is always full of people. And work at home health care workers work 12-15 hour shifts. Why did it take a pandemic to honor these great workers? The same thing happened when 9-11 2001 happened. They honored firefighters for a while and then it was done. What happened to the years in between then and now? In my opinion, these hard workers should be honored all times.

They were probably working so hard that they didn’t have time to stop and get honored. I have a friend whose husband is a nurse, and he was working 12-hour shifts for months at a time last year. Also, a lot of things were canceled last year, so there wasn’t a national stage to honor them.

@Metsrock69 — ah, well, how long did it take the US to acknowledge the Vietnam veterans. We are a little slow on these things.

I wasn't talking about last year, I was just talking in general of the last 30 years and beyond

yes, so many owe their lives to the rescue workers of history and the present, now perhaps more than ever @Metsrock69

I know what you mean. They are no more heroes, then they were prior to COVID and the same will be true after. They are worked like dogs, despite the situation not being as dire as the media wants you to believe. Yet, they are being called "heroes". What do we need to do to get normal recognition? This should've been that way from the start. Not wait until a crisis happens, ask them to work long hours like robots, then have the nerve to call them Heros. Do you think they WANT to do this job?

It didn’t take a pandemic to be honored or even recognize a lot of times these works like my husband get told in person. See there people they helped again and get a thank. Being told thank you is all they care about they don’t care for getting free stuff although it is nice after a long night or day.
If people want to say thank you during a pandemic ask it sign petitions for their first responders of all kinds to get paid extra or risk pay which they are not get

in some areas firefighters is a volunteer job. I don't think that is fair. they should get something for risking their life
