How Do You Get Through To A Trump Believer?

During the last few years, we have all seen a big, big change in our normal lives. What a wake-up call. Trump's bizarre behavior has shocked us and made us wonder what was next. Nothing was surprising. Nothing that is until January 6. Could we believe for one moment that a president would send his backers to the capitol to try to take the life of Pelosi and hang the Vice president? Does that even sound like something that could happen in our United States of America? We now have a representative on the Hill that believes in satan worshiping lizard people, Jewish razors causing fires in California, and, of course, that Trump did win the 2020 election. I have someone close to me who believes in Trump, calls him a patriot. This person believes that Biden is a pedophile and rapes little boys. This person believes that the reason all of the military were in town(Washington that is) on January 20 was because they were there to arrest Speaker Pelosi for some illegal signing of a bill from months before. The arrest never took place and we all know why all the military were there. Seeing the rioters on January 6 take over the capitol and the destruction that took place, police being beaten with American flags, police being tortured and screaming in pain right in front of us, it was something like a nightmare come to life. It was horrible. Does this person close to me really believe this was right? That this was Antifa and not Trump followers who are members of such white supremacist groups like Proud Boys. Stopping the steal? Is this how we go about it nowadays? And, now, we are seeing the confused mixture of legal defense that the former president was able to put together to defend him( a far cry from the top line defenders he has had in the past) telling the senate to go arrest the former president. This is his defenders speaking on behalf of him. I think he will wish that he did go to court and defend himself; he could have done a better job. I feel so bad, it hurts my heart to have this all going on, and, this person close to me believing in this demented former president, even calling him a patriot. I just cannot believe that an intelligent person can not put two and two together and not come up with four instead of the five or six this person seems to. I can't begin to describe how shocking and horrific it is to have someone you care about believe in such conspiracy theories and, in a man that is a liar and who is so unpatriotic, it is amazing to me when he lies about how great he is and how he feels about America. He cares about himself and that is all. He didn't even care enough about the Vice president to call and see if he was alright after the insurrection. He couldn't understand why everyone else watching the riot wasn't as excited and joyful as he was. This is madness. I wonder how all of this white supremacy and Trump's power is going to end. I can understand how some can be unhappy with how the government is doing but this is not the answer. Democracy is having the ability to vote people into office and to represent you who will make laws to make our world better. The world not just taken over by a delusional president who sets up no taxes for the rich and lets his constituents die of COVID-19. A president whose workday consists of a couple of games of golf. Yes, this is madness. So glad Biden is at the helm now. But, how does a democratic person get through to this person close to her who believes in Trump's madness? How?

I doubt that you can get through to the delusional person... People only see/hear what they choose to see/hear. I'm sorry.

@DaddyEvil ......If there was a way, I suppose, this would make our country not so free.

@celticeagle You're welcome. Believe me, I wish there was a way to make others see/understand things the way we do... But most of the time, people are too headstrong or sometimes just too ignorant to make that feasible.

I imagine that one gets through to them the same way that one does to a Flat Earther - by giving up.

Throw salt at 'em? Water, maybe? With a bulldozer? Schedule them for a lobotomy?

@celticeagle I did not read all of what you said. I am going say you should not believe all you read. People are not the same and people have to believe what they believe in. Also I read something you said about Jews and I have no idea where you got that information and I think you had better find out the right information before you just say things like the news people do. I am sorry that you cannot see that Trump was good for the people of America and for others as well. I feel bad for you that you think Biden will be a good President.

You can't get through to them. They believe what they believe and will defend their opinions to the bitter end.

They believe what they believe - and somehow in their minds they can make sense of and justify this whole insanity. I see how it goes with friends and certain family members - there's no point in even having a discussion about it with them.
