What our guests might see from their window

We were still in bed when Vince spotted a doe and a buck kangaroo through our French door. The bucks are always very wary and alert and this one was no exception. I wanted a photo of them together so you could see the huge difference in size. However, I had to wait till they moved along then I was able to take some photos through the slats of the blind. By then, a second doe had joined them. This photo is taken from the main guest bedroom and is what you might see if you were to visit and stay the night. Unfortunately, the flywire spoils the photo and the difference doesn’t look that great. However, I can assure you that the bucks are much bigger than the females. They are eating the last of what few vegetables we had.

When I lived in a "mountainous" community, the deer and bunnies ate virtually everything I planted.

@TheHorse They have a very eclectic appetite. One of these roos was eating the leaves of a eucalyptus. I didn't think they ate those but it was a very small tree.

Mostly it's weeds - thistles and what we call wire weed. I did have broccoli and cauliflower in there but they didn't come to much.

@JudyEv Hmm. Sounds like how I would like to live my life. Just kidding. Do the bucks engage in boxing matches over a hot female? I know that our bighorn sheep do. Not sure how the deer decide who gets to be lovers with whom.

@TheHorse We've seen the bucks fighting. From the documentaries we've watched, the does choose the biggest and best buck as a partner. An inferior buck with pursue a doe if the boss isn't around.

I'm not really sure. The bucks are often off by themselves except during mating season.

Oh they ate the last of your vegetables !! But well, how will you be able to penalize them?? Fun apart, watching them in action can be a sight by itself.

@JudyEv It looks like one is on the lookout while the other two are doing mischief. I would say the guests or guest in that room would be very entertained by them. The picture looks fine to me.

He's huge @JudyEv I read they can stand up to 6 feet, this one looks about that big but I imagine he weighs a lot more than the average man of 6 feet.

@JudyEv Deer doesn't taste gamey, if it is prepared well. I had some mixed with sausage once that was awesome. I haven't had it alot though.

You can shoot them on your own property or if you have permission from the property owner. You can get a licence to shoot them if they are damaging crop. Quite a lot of kangaroo meat is sold as pet food. Very few restaurants offer it and it isn't often sold in supermarkets but people do eat it and some love it. It tastes quite 'gamey', much like your deer I guess.

There isn't much there for them now but I was silly to think the raised beds would stop the roos. But at least the rabbits can't get up into the beds.

@JudyEv That's like here in Florida where there are lots of photoshopped pictures of people riding on the backs of alligators. Good for humor, obviously not something one does in real life. Thanks for looking up the answer for me. I was genuinely curious if the kangaroos could be ridden.
