It is not a secret that some of you who know me that teaching online is my current job. One of the responsibilities is to correct the mistakes of my students online, either in speaking or making sentences. Having this kind of job is very rewarding when seeing them improved in using the second language, which is English. Do you like to correct mistakes? Are you a fault-finder? I am on a site where people send in their writing for others to comment on. I enjoy editing their work as the errors just jump out at me.

Honestly, I like this kind of job. I prefer to do editing and proofreading than teaching online. However, it is difficult to find it.

As a job, you should do that because it is a part of your responsibility. But with family and friends, no, I do not correct them much. For my kids, yes, so they will learn

I do teach my niece some grammar rules. But then, it is not that serious matter since it is her first language. I can only check her writing compositions sometimes. She can use the language well and no regret that she learned it first before our native tongue and the Ilokano dialect.

@rakski It is a good thing. I cannot understand why DepEd needs to focus more on dialects and the native tongue. With this education system makes some nurses failed IELTS or TOEFL.

Correction is always required as I always made mistake many times. Being a non-native English speaker, we don't know how it sounds and sense to others because many times I tend to write in my native flows.

During my school days, I tried my best to improve my speaking skills in English. If I did not do this, I am not teaching online.

No, to be honest, I do not like to correct mistakes, this is why to be a teacher is not a job I would have liked to do.

@LadyDuck I am sure it is difficult to learn your native tongue. English is my second language. I humbly say that I had improved through the years of using it.

@Shavkat English is not my native language, I am grateful when someone points out my mistakes. I feel boring point out Italian mistakes to my friends non Italian speaking.

@Shavkat I surely have improved during the years, but I would not dare to teach English. I could surely teach Italian and French.

I do not mind others' business. I will only be reacting if I was insulted deliberately. Regardless, I am open to constructive criticism.

You have a point. On this site, we can correct sentence structures here. Besides the point, it is a rude thing to do.

I don't mind if someone corrects my mistakes, because English is also not my everyday language.

@Shavkat That's right, before 2015 we didn't have an edit button here and if we made a typo it couldn't be replaced.

@May2k8 I agree. But then, it does not matter if we commit grammar mistakes here.

It is also the same thing here. English is our second language. I think it is not cool to check the grammar mistakes here.

I'm pretty open minded about being corrected, as long as it's more towards helping me to improve. There's no limitation to learning. But I don't try to correct others, unless I know they're okay for it. They might not being pretty open minded about it.

I do agree that it depends on how it was being corrected. I still go for constructive criticism.

I accept being corrected because it is an input. I am also a good listener. I learned from my teachers and so many corrections I had received, encountered. Until now I love listening even to my children but I hate gossiping

It is not my cup of tea to gossip, too. But then, if it is a juicy one, why not. There is nothing wrong if we are being corrected because it is a learning process to be improved.

@Shavkat I remember my brother, he finished his report needed to be submitted the following day for presentation. Upon handing to his boss, the papers flew as thrown without pointing out what was wrong with the report and so my brother took another time ro review and find the mistakes his boss saw. My brother was not corrected, he looked for what should be corrected. My brother told us that his boss is the best boss because he has learned so much from him despite of being mean, rude and strict.

@macayada I can relate to him. I had this kind of boss. I was so frustrated why he is acting as you had mentioned. In the end, I had learned so many things from him.

I am sure that we can still learn new things aside from learning the English language. Learning other soft skills can make us a better person and well-equipped.
