What Can You Do With A Tin* (BE) / Can (AE) Of Tuna?

You can make a tasty salad, of course. You can get tuna with a bit of watery liquid or with a lot of oil. I had a tin with a lot of oil. I took the tuna out with a fork so that some oil would drip off. I put it in a bowl and touched it with a paper tissue to get more oil off. I opened a tin with maize kernels, poured away the liquid and added the content to the tuna. I had already boiled three eggs. I peeled them, cut them into slices with an egg slicer and added them, too. As it wasn’t necessary to condition the salad with oil as there was still enough in the fish, I added only vinegar and then pepper and salt. I can’t tell you how much. If you aren’t sure, start with a bit. You can always add more later. But if you add a lot right at the beginning, you can‘t get it out again. Then I mixed the salad and let it stand for a while. I ate it with some slices of bread and was fully satisfied with my light evening meal. ----- * I’m using the British English term. ----- Photo: Liz's Healthy Table

I love tuna! My mom used to buy it with oil . . . I happen to buy it in water, no salt . . . but I like it either way. I will have to try it next time with the boiled eggs !

That can happen. I wouldn't be too concerned. That does sound like one way to eat tuna out of a can.

I don't eat tuna out of the can. I mix my salad in a bowl.

@MALUSE I don't think you should try to eat tuna straight out of a can, or tin as you put it.

I can't imagine anyone leaving all the oil in the tin and also eating it. I would have to drink a lot of schnapps afterwards.

I don't like tuna in oil, I prefer white tuna in water but the combination of ingredients does sound tasty.

Canned tuna is incredibly popular - something I find strange as I'm not all that fond of it, it tastes nothing like fresh tuna, and in any case tuna fishing is often unsustainable and most tuna populations are threatened.

I rinse all tuna (solid white packed in water) in a stainer under hot water before I use it in salads or to make tunafish sandwiches.

@MALUSE It gets rid of salts and impurities. My butcher told me that's what he does for the tuna salad they make. It's delicious. I've been doing that for over 20 years.

My cat likes the oil from tuna, but not the tuna. I always drain it off. I like tuna sandwiches and tuna salad.

I make a similar salad, tuna, cannellini beans, red onions and parsley. I also make tuna patties with tuna, another delicious salad is avocado (sliced) white endive and tuna, seasoned with a little olive oil.

This salad looks so delicious and colorful. I buy tuna in water. My favorite way to eat is in a grilled cheese. Spread some on the cheese before grilling. It's so tasty.

Your salad looks delicious. I prefer to buy canned tuna in water not in oil because they put too much oil in there.
