Update Getting things fixed

I posted recently about our garage door breaking unexpectedly. Turns out that it was an eighteen-year-old spring giving out, which took a couple of cables with it. As loud as it was, thankfully we were both in the house and no one got hurt. We've gotten in touch with a repair company we know and are getting it fixed. At first, my husband was reluctant to spend the money on a repair, but after he saw what actually broke he agrees that it's better to fix it now rather then later. The door itself has been taking a lot of hits as of late (previous owners drove a car into it) so that it's still standing is amazing. I'm just glad it's just a spring and some cables. And, we can fix it. Or rather pay someone to fix it.

We had to replace the spring in our garage door a couple of months ago. Yes, we had to pay, too, but at least the garage door repairman checked everything else out to make sure it works properly. One less thing to worry about.

Brian (the tech who fixed ours) did the same. He also said the cables didn't need to be replaced like we thought. So we saved 45 bucks on the repair. Plus, he sprayed everything down so it's nice and smooth. I am not a fan of the smell, but it's okay. We opened up everything today and stuff got to air out.

@kaylachan So glad it's all done. Airing it out should help tremendously.

Heh, already did. didn't need to replace the cables so that saved us 45 bucks. And, rather than splitting payments, I just paid the whole thing because our taxes came in.

Guy's supposed to be here between three and 5. So there's still time. Hope the rain won't cause him to reschedule. It came out of no where.

I think the only reason it did, was because we've been using the opener 99 percent of the time. Only time we don't is when the power is out, which puts less stress on the spring. Then there was the time it sat empty before we moved in.

Hope you can get your garage door fixed quickly. Better to fix it than have it turn into something that's more costly

Got it fixed a couple days ago, thanks. My husband was hoping to put it off, until one of us got paid... but decided waiting was probably not the best idea. So we got it done.

That's good that it won't be a major repair and that no one was near it when it snapped out however it broke.

George, my husband, told me it split in two. The force caused the cables to snap lose. Both of us were in the house when it happened so neither of us got hurt.

It's 220 all in, but they're going to let us split the payments over a couple of weeks.

Since it's spring, it probably won't cost so much. That's a rather sturdiest door too considering the previous owner rammed into it.

I agree. spring, labor and cables is 220. For someone living paycheck to paycheck like us, it is cringe-worthy sticker shock. I am just relieved that that's all it is. No one got hurt.
