I couldn't breathe! Is it asthma?

I've been coughing for months. I feel like I'm congested and sometimes I cough up phlegm, but I haven't had issues inhaling. Until this morning. I was lying in bed and had just coughed when I suddenly couldn't inhale!! I quickly rolled on my side thinking it was just my position, but nothing changed. It was like trying to breathe through a thick pillow. I rolled on my other side and leaned over the side of the bed. Same thing. Finally, I sat on the side of my bed and forced myself to take slow deliberate breaths. I could do it, but I was afraid to become anxious and panic and then not be able to breathe at all. I could exhale fine, but breathing in was difficult. I just sat there until my breathing became normal again. That's when I finally got dressed and came downstairs. After that, I was fine. I have no idea what happened, but the thought that it might be asthma hasn't left my mind. I think I might have to talk to my doctor about this.

Better to see your doctor and know the real reason. Knowing the cause helps and it won't lead to unnecessary speculations and anxiety. Take care.

@jerzgirl yes I hope they are just similar symptoms to asthma but not. I wouldn't wish anyone to get it.

Yikes! I'm glad the symptoms have improved, but I'd definitely call my doctor as soon as possible.

I'm glad, too, or I'd be in the hospital by now, I'm sure. Thanks.

Yes, definitely talk to your doctor. Especially with the COVID you can never be too sure. Better to be safe than sorry!

So do I. Anything that restricts breathing unnerves me.

Agreed. So far, I've been negative, but who knows in between tests.
