Do you ever do things based on other people's likes or dislikes?

For instance I had a customer tell me recently that a new apple we've carried about a year now was by far the best apple available. It's called a cosmic crisp. I'm eating the one I bought now and I have to say they are good but I wouldn't say they are the only good apples available.
Thirty plus year ago all my friends were seeing chariots of fire and loved it. By the time I got time off to go no one wanted to see it again so I went alone. Big mistake. I hated it. I didn't understand it and all the major actors looked to much alike without my glasses on.
What about you? Do you try things out based on the approval of others? I will say that for certain things referrals and reviews are the way to make a decision, but...?

Sometimes I do have influence from other people's opinions to try something out, but not always. There is a restaurant famous for its pea soup . . . friends have always raved about it making trips up north. Well when we finally were able to get there, we tried it - and eh - it was mediocre split pea soup.

Isn't that weird how that happens? Maybe the ones reaching never knew how to make split pea soup.

@MarshaMusselman That's what I was thinking. We've always made our own . . . that restaurant one tasted like canned

@much2say in more current years my split pea never split anymore but I never figured out why. I'd cook it in the insta pot but hubs doesn't like split pea.

For the most part, no. It depends on the product. I may consider user reviews before trying something for myself, but not usually.

If it's a major purchase I'll look at reviews. If it's a business in debating on calling I'll go with referrals but for everything else I think it depends on who is telling me to try something.
The apple was okay but not as good as I was expecting.

If a lot of people say something is good I might try it. It just depends.

@MarshaMusselman I know if there are things that I do not like, so no matter how the others say that "it's good", I am not going to try.

I like some once in a while so it wasn't a big deal to try one and I'd thought about it before.
I might do a little is both actually. Otherwise I might never have tried certain types of produce that aren't common around here.

I was mainly confused the whole time as I couldn't keep track of the story line. I also want wearing glasses at the time and that may have been the real issue.
They may remake it and I may try it again. I looked at the trailer and remembered the theme song.

It's now sold in Michigan. We have about five or more newer varieties here.

@spiderdust that could be true but we get other produce from CA so you never know. We might get more because we get people moving here from all over sure to some of the jobs and colleges in the area.

@MarshaMusselman I suspect it's not going to come over to this coast. One thing that I had to get used to when I moved from the eastern United States over to California is most of the apple varieties I knew were regional, and I had new apple varieties to learn.

I don't think following because your curious is a bad thing just don't follow someone over a cliff or for something dangerous.

Funny you mentioned cosmic crisp apples. I went to the store and Mike said to buy him an apple so that is the one I chose for him. It will be the first time trying it.
I think for me it depends on how much I trust someone if I will try something on their likes/dislikes. I had a friend who always said to watch this movie or that movie, trouble was she was into horror a genre I don't care for. I never watched Chariots of Fire.

It's from 1981 and might be one picked for digital remastering. I just watched a trailer and remember the music. If it comes out maybe we can get it on dvd and see if it's any good after all.
Let me know what your husband thinks of the apple.

I'm not really talking about pleasing others but more following suggestions for eating out doing something new to you.

@thelme55 trying out new food ideas can be easier sometimes especially if we already like the ingredients.

@MarshaMusselman I see. I sometimes follow suggestions depending on what kind of food I love to eat.

Not caring what they think and filling their suggestions could be two different things though.

Maybe I do it more than others because I work in a grocery store and ask questions about their purchases. If I want working there I wouldn't have tried half of what I have.

I am the same as you, as humans we have different thoughts and opinions, not all things that are good and delicious according to other people are the same as us, my sister and me have different opinions about black pepper chicken, I don't like chicken or meat with black pepper sauce, it tastes strange to me, and she really likes chicken and black pepper sauce meat. but I do consider other people's suggestions and opinions

If all our taste buds were the same there would be no need for all the products sold in the shelves these days. The same could be said about our activities and entertainment.
Thanks for the well thought-out reply.

At present one thing that comes to mind that Star Wars craze. When the first movie came out everyone wanted to get to see it but I held back, I knew I would not enjoy it. I once found the movie online and I watched and did not even get halfway through it was just not my kind of movie, I also never saw Chariots of Fire. I will however check out those cosmic crisp apples.

Chariots of fire might be getting a remake and after watching the trailer I think I would try to see it again. I might like it now.
I also enjoyed Star wars and all the new versions that came out through the years. Chariots of fire want a sci fi though it I might have found it easier to get into it back then.
