We are moving on up!

Our complex is about to undergo huge renovations. Each apartment will receive a complete gut, and we will all get brand new floors, ceilings, light fixtures, walls, kitchens with new cabinets, refrigerators, stoves, new central air/heating units, new bathrooms (showers, sinks, vanities, toilets, mirrors)...etc. You name it, it will be replaced.
Then afterwards our property will have our own onsite hair salons, fitness centers, computer hubs, game rooms, meeting rooms, community center for parties, lobby, post office boxes, beautiful outside landscaping (just to name a few). Plus they will be constructing a brand new 52 unit building to bring in new tenants.
It will be high end living that won't cost the current residents an extra penny. Our rent is based on our income. So we never have to worry about our rent going up, unless our income does. Only the new building will be rented out using market rate prices.
Preparations for the renovations are starting to begin. All the residents who had flower beds in the back of the buildings, had to get it rid of everything and move them either to other relatives property, or the dumpster.
Most people just had their relatives come and get their plants and stuff that we're outside. And then yesterday I spoke with a resident, and everybody that parks in the back has to move their cars, because starting March 1st the construction people will be bringing in their equipment, so they can start the renovations on the 4th.
I don’t have to worry about parking, since I have a reserved spot in the front of the building, due to my CHF disabilities.
They'll be lots of banging, hustling and bustling, for the next year-and-a-half to two years.
The renovations are scheduled to be completed in 1 and 1/2 years. But due to possible weather conditions like hurricanes, or construction hiccups; the schedule can alter a little bit.
And in all the years when I was in GSA Contracting, commercial and residential interior design, delays were sometime inevitable. So I won't be surprised if we have a few scheduling setbacks.
But it is beginning to feel real now. Because I'm seeing the land already being cleared of all the little extras (plants, patio furniture, etc.) that we have around the property. So it's starting to happen.

@Tina30219 I actually answered this in another question within this post. See below.
They are doing nine apartments at a time. They are having movers move us out. They have set up a contract for a nice living facility for us to move into temporarily. Each apartment renovation will take approximately 7 weeks. The apartments will be furnished. We will take what we need for those 7 or so weeks. We will continue to pay our rent in our old place, but the contractors will pay for any additional living expenses we have... I.E. cable, internet, and what it costs for putting our stuff in storage. When the renovations are done, they will move us back in.

Mine is scheduled to be renovated from June 30th to August 12th...depending upon whether there are any construction delays due to weather, or any other hiccups.

It sounds awesome, but the residents are going to continue living in their spaces while this is going on? Are they doing one unit at a time with the belief it will only take a day per unit? Also sounds like it could be messy and not very healthy for people with health issues.

@teresatrotter Well that's good. Hope the temporary facility isn't too bad.

@patgalca Actually it pretty decent. It has more amenities than we will have, even after all the renovations. Our apartments are not that big, so there is no room for a dishwasher, or washer and dryer. However, I am used to washing dishes by hand now. And the laundry facilities is right next door to me, so I don't have to go very far.
In the temporary place, we will have a washer and dryer in each unit, and as well as a dishwasher. So I will be spoiled a little bit...but I still have no complaints where I live. I live just a few blocks from the ocean...so that trumps a dishwasher anyday.

What are they going to do for the existing residents? I mean what happens if you can't live in the unit while they are renovating it? I remember, major renovations were supposed to happen to our complex, and we were expected to not only disappear for eight hours while they did the work but live in a reno zone afterward. My husband and I kept delaying our scheduled remodel, because one, there was nowhere for me to go, and two we were in the process of moving into our house when the news of the remodel happened. While they weren't touching the floors, they were refinishing all the cabinets and countertops (kitchen and both bathrooms) so yeah, couldn't live in it with three cats.
With them doing a complete gut how are you guys going to live in a reno zone?
