my fridge exploded!

Well, just the motherboard. But now the whole house smells like ozone!
A couple of weeks ago, the fridge made a strange noise and then just stopped working. After verifying that it wasn't a blown fuse or thrown breaker, we moved everything we could into the garage fridge and put the rest in a cooler. We only got the fridge in June, so it was still under warranty. In fact, since we had owned it for less than a year, the manufacturer was responsible for the repairs instead of the store where we had purchased it.
Today the repairman came by to figure out what was wrong. While he was on the phone with LG tech support, he tried something that they recommended and -- BOOM! Oh, the sparks and smell! Whatever they told him to do fried the motherboard.
So... they're replacing our fridge completely. Unfortunately, it's going to take at least another week.

A coworker told me that LG refrigerators are notorious for this sort of problem, which I wish I had known before we purchased it.

Better a replacement than a new problem every week for a while. I never know refrigerators had motherboards.

@spiderdust I've heard of ones with different settings for different drawers so I understand. Still sounds rather words though. I guess it missed the inspection before it left the assembly line.

I guess the newer ones do these days. This one has a few fancy settings and monitors.

We have a smaller older fridge in the garage that we've loaded all the perishables into, plus we have 2 ice chests for some of the less-perishable items.

Sucky. But at least it won't cost you out of pocket. Although I'm sure that isn't helping much right now.
We just moved our chest freezer back into the house. I need to make sure it's still working and fill it up.

I wonder if we can get them to reimburse us for lost food and the ice we've had to purchase to keep things cold?

@spiderdust Maybe. I know some places do that. It's worth a shot.

It's the old smaller fridge that we mostly just use for keeping those back-up jugs of milk and other extras, but now it's THE fridge. I hope it holds up.

Good thing you don't have to pay out of pocket, that would be expensive!

No kidding! It's still a bit frustrating though, as we haven't had this one long.

Yikes, I had a bad experience with this fridge when I first got it, but when the control board was replaced it started working fine, but it took awhile to get to that point.

Yeah, I'm hoping the replacement doesn't have these problems.

I've been missing it so much. I'm thankful we had that old one in the garage.
