Shopping for car insurance...

It is a good idea to periodically shop around for car insurance with other companies, especially if your credit improved as drastically as mine did...
Today I was able to switch to Liberty Mutual. With all the discounts; clean driving record; being able to get a military discount because my dad was in the Air Force; and being a member of Navy Federal; good credit rating; age; and a host of other discounts...my insurance premium dropped almost 40%.
They will be sending me this device that I can hook up to my car to track my mileage and driving habits, and if I end up with a good report, the insurance premium could be discounted up to an additional 30% more. They went ahead and gave me a 10% discount today for opting into the program.
Due to the pandemic, it may take up to two months to get the device; because they are out of stock. But they told me that at the end of the year...they will refund any discounts back to my credit card that I earned this year at the end of the terms policy. Then next renewal I will get the discount automatically upfront.
And because I opted to pay the premium in six months increments, I received an additional discount on top of everything else. I was impressed. I could not believe how much money I saved.
I told them years ago I was a policy holder with them, but their premiums just got to be too expensive, I had to change insurers. They were happy to welcome me back.
Sorry Jake from State Farm... Liberty Mutual offered me even greater rates than you do.

My brother has lived in Jacksonville since 1984, and I lived there and in Orange Park for a while. So, I am familiar with getting car insurance there/ It's a shame Metromile hasn't come to Florida yet. I had it in Virginia and loved paying by the mile.

Paying by the mile? Wow... My insurance would be nothing. Since the pandemic started a year ago, I have only filled my car up twice. And both times there was still over a quarter of a tank still in the car... With this second fill-up, I still a about a half a tank left. So if I was paying by the mile, my insurance would be pennies on the dollar.

@teresatrotter Yes, it would. And, that is what is so good about Metromile. There is a monthly rate, plus mileage. The included image shows an example of what it might cost. The only time my bill was higher was when I drove two hours to my friend's house and back for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It beats having a rate based on age, credit score, zip code. When I called to have my address changed to my dad's in West Passyunk, Philadelphia, PA, the quote I got from the insurance company I had then (which was either Progressive or Farmers) gave me a quote of $495.00 a month. That was for just me and my one car, and they said it was because the address was in South Philly. I had been paying maybe about $122.00 with them as it was. And, I was not about to pay a penny more, let alone nearly $500.00.

@Chellezhere Well... I can't complain what Liberty Mutual gave me... With the massive amount of discounts, plus an additional discount for paying six months at a time...my insurance came out to be only 675.00 a year. Roughly $56 monthly...so I have no complaints now. When I get the gadget to attach to my car, I could get up to 30% more off depending upon how they grade my driving habits. So I am happy for now, unless they decide to jack up the rates, then I will be looking again.

When I started looking a couple of months back, a couple of them sent emails several times a day, I had to block them. It became too much. I get leery if someone get's that desperate to get our business.
