All the time, the life span(?) is 3 years. This year my phone will be turning 4. Now it's restarting on it's own and it's lagging. I really do not have the budget for a new phone right now. How long does your phone usually last?

Oh no usually it about time that you save some for replacement. I think phones last for 3-4 years.

I'm averaging about two years right now. My two previous phones were the Moto E4 Plus; didn't have any problems with the first one, but I broke the screen and had it replaced with an identical refurbished phone. That one started having issues with freezing and crashing a few months ago, and it just wasn't able to run a couple of apps I use all the time very well anymore. Now I have the Moto G Stylus and hopefully that will last at least as long as the others did. You might try backing up your files and photos and doing a system reset. Sometimes that will fix issues like you're having with yours for a while. Maybe that'll help it last until you're able to upgrade it.

In 2019, when I was here in New Zealand, my Samsung S8 gave up and it was still 2 months before I fully finished paying my installment on it to Smart. I was then forced to buy an iPhone 11 Pro. My previous Samsung phone lasted 4 or 5 years. My S5 even reached over 6 years.

I've never tried those installments plans, you still had to pay for that even though it broke right?

@lady1993 Yes I still had to pay. All my previous phones were free but I paid for that because I downgraded to a lower plan.

Never fond of cellphones and my android, a Samsung, had shown 'no storage' two years now. That is why I have no photos any longer. Not thinking of buying a new one. I still have a landline and that's enough for me.

@lady1993 That was done twice. The shop did a check but just said bring it to Samsung. Sigh. Nope. Not wasting time.

I have read an article before, it said that phone battery span is 3 to 4 years (maybe also the phone?) if it lasts for 5 years you're lucky. Maybe now is the time for you to save money for a new phone.

I think Samsung can last longer than any cellphone brand, of course the durability is below Nokia, but I believe if the settings are returned to the original, the memory capacity will be empty and become good again, maybe all you need is to reinstall the Samsung cellphone.
