Blood oranges from my friend's tree. Have you ever had blood oranges?

I scored some blood oranges from my friend's tree a couple of weeks ago. I had enough that I gave some to the preschool for snack, some to both of my co-teachers, and some to another music friend. Of course I kept a bunch for myself. Have you ever had blood oranges? The are called blood oranges because the "meat" inside is strikingly red. But they taste like regular oranges to me, perhaps a tad sweeter than average. I'll attach a generic picture that I took from the internet. I think I forgot to photograph my "harvest."

I'm not sure if I've had them. Do they grow then throughout the South?

@TheHorse They are actually grown in California. Originated in Venezuela. But only in season for a short time.

I actually prefer the regular yellow ones, I like the sourness. But once or twice I have found that the shop only had pink or red ones in stock!

Yes, but as you say they seem to taste just like regular oranges to me, I guess the colour makes them interesting?

Perhaps so. I'd had to "do research" to see if they really are (on average) any sweeter than "regular" oranges.

They are called "sanguinelle" in Italy from "sangue" blood, because of their color, they are good for juice.
