Changes and Monthly Health Report

Do you like changes? I went shopping at Wal-Mart this morning after the Y. I didn't notice anything right away when I walked in, but it didn't take long. They've been moving everything around for a while now. It's impossible to find what you're looking for without walking the entire store. So, okay, I found what I needed and went for, then went to the checkout. Say what?! Talk about change. It's almost all self-service with only a few cashiers. I don't like self-service. Let me rephrase that. I HATE self-service. If they want me to get the app and have them deliver it, that just might happen. It's been a while since I stocked up. I've been mainly replenishing what I had. Today, I stocked up. My fridge and freezer look like they got hit. I still need a few things, and as there's still room in the fridge, I can make it work the next time I shop. Okay for the health report. Have you been waiting for this? I said I would update monthly. It was a good month. I got down to 170.2 at one point, but it didn't last. My weigh-in for February was 179.6. My weigh-in today was 179.0. I lost a whole 6 ounces. It's been a roller coaster all last month. I'm hoping I can get the weight to go down instead of taking a ride on the roller coaster again. I know I didn't spend as much time as I usually do at the YWCA. That will change. I plan on being there every week this month. I don't do weekends and they're closed on Sunday. Okay, that's my report. How is your day going? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.

You're still doing a great job. May I ask, what was your weight before? Like when you started on this journey.

Someone decided the new approach would increase profits.

Is that what they decided? I suppose because people will need to walk the entire store, see things they wouldn't normally buy, and throw them in the basket.

I haven’t been in any store since the pandemic hit, so I wouldn’t know what changed or not. I would not like to check myself out either. Don’t worry about your weight. It will come off, especially when it gets warmer out.

@just4him I messed up an order when I first started, but I got used to it quickly. Now I order from many stores. You can do it. Don’t fret, but don’t eat too much either.

@DianneN I need to start tracking my food again. I'm still watching what I eat. I'm eating more fruit than anything else.

I know you haven't as you post when you're expecting a delivery. I've thought about doing that, but only did it once. I messed up that order. It's better to go myself. I know it will come off especially when it's warm enough to get out to walk again.

I only like the self serve lines, for a couple items. For a basket of groceries it's a big pain in the neck! Your numbers are heading in the right direction, good job Valerie!

I noticed stores had less cashiers too . . . but I will always go to the cashiers - not the self service. I restocked food last week - felt so good! I figure it's still winter . . . weight will naturally be better with warmer weather ahead (that's my reasoning anyway ). Today is a good day - got a lot of things squared away - including some yard work - but now it's time to make dinner.

I hate when the stores move things around. Our local Walmart has been doing the almost no cashiers for some time now. They also seem to have told them to work very slowly. I still wait. I am not going to do the work for them unless I get a huge discount on my shopping.

They are always rearranging the Walmart here and in some instances the change up don't make any sense. I don't like being force so to speak to have to use self check out because they only open a couple of regular registers. Old time employess who were working Walmart when Sam Walton was alive say that he wouldnot like the way his sons have change the store and the way he cared for both staff and shoppers when he was alie.

I started noticing the change a couple of weeks ago. I was forever lost looking for what I needed. It's going to take a while to learn the new store. I was happy to see they still had a couple of cashier checkouts. I'm sure he wouldn't.

@Elizaby I don't think that could happen. Clerks are standing there watching as people scan their items. At least here they are.

@just4him By the time we learn a new layout, they are already resetting the store. And it wouldn't surprise me if somewhere down the line if stores go back to regular checkouts (especially grocery) as profit margins drop because of the people who are not scanning every grocery item before putting it in their bag

Nope, I hate changes! Sorry your Wal-Mart has changed so much. Our local grocery store has been changing a lot the past 6 months. Now they are even remodeling. Think they are adding self-service things too. That's good to be stocked up....that's nice when you can do that. Well it is still down rather than up! But I understand 170 was a nicer number...hope March will be better with that for you. I hope to stick to low carb for most of the month, for a change.

I REALLY HATE those self-check-out things too. Being forced to use one not only spoils a shopping trip, it is enough to ruin my entire day! They make me so angry. I don't care if I have to wait five times as long to deal with a real person, I am happy to just stand there and read a book while other people pass me by until I can get to a real cashier.

Even before I became legally blind, I hated it when stores changed things around. But, now that I am legally blind, the visual clutter (i.e.: what sighted people see as shelves, lighting, foot traffic, and inventory) is bad enough without them rearranging everything on their shelves. So, now I either have someone come with me or get an employee of the store to help me shop. Thirty-five years ago, I was the fastest scanning cashier at the supermarket in which I was working. So, I can handle self-checkout. But, I prefer not to, because those registers and scales can be too glitchy, humans need to work, and I prefer the one-on-one verbal interaction that human baggers and cashiers provide. It can be so hard to lose weight and keep the weight off, especially when you are a woman above a "certain age." I know, because I am one of them.

I REALLY REALLY HATE self-checkout tills! I can't express exactly how much I hate and despise them. Unfortunately in a few places they sometimes only have several of those and one attendant to try and resolve problems. I just stand there until the attendant comes over to see what's wrong and hopefully then does it for me. Or, now that my daughter is old enough to have a go, I let her do it and if/when she gets stuck I just stand back and wait for the attendant to come and sort it out. Being forced to use one of those things is enough to spoil my entire day!
