Going Bonkers!

Our driveway lights have a motion detector and set to turn on automatically when it’s dark out. It lights the way for us or any car coming down our driveway. However, it will also turn on when a person, deer, or even a strong wind passes down our driveway. The lights remain on for 15 minutes then automatically go off. ~Please excuse the sight of the ugly snow~ This evening it’s rather windy. Can you imagine how annoying those lights are? On Off On Off On again! I just asked hubs to turn them off (using the light switch in our house) before the neighbors think we are doing it on purpose. Besides, it’s driving me bonkers!

Oh my gosh, an airplane might make a landing in your driveway . The motion detector on one side of our house goes nuts that way . . . it does a weird on and off thing with the sun setting - so sometimes I have to turn it off until it actually gets real dark.

@DianneN It's on the side of the neighbors that I don't care for . . . so I do hope it's annoying them .

@much2say I’d be flicking that light off and on all night. Perhaps the kids and your hubby can fill in so you can rest your hand between flicking.

He actually shut them off two minutes ago. I can see them from where I am sitting. It gets quite annoying thinking someone is coming down the driveway.

They are nice to have, but they can be a pain. The motion sensor on my old lights went bad, so it'd come on at the drop of a hat (or a leaf, or a lightning bug). I replaced it. I keep the back light by my garage turned off at night (because it'll shine right into the next-door neighbor's bedroom (and I'm sure that's annoying to them!).

Ours hasn’t gone that crazy yet, but if it does, we will replace them, too. Your neighbor would definitely become annoyed. Btw, we noticed our light bulb in front of the garage was blown. Hubs has to replace it tomorrow. You reminded me to jot it down on my notepad.

Sometimes our sensor lights go on too. I guess a kangaroo hops by too close and sets them off.

@JudyEv It’s pitch black here without lights. When they go on and off it can give one vertigo or worse.

@DianneN Mostly, we wouldn't notice if they were on or off so that's a good thing.

@DianneN Poor Doodles, same for Gevy, he does not make them turn on. Bubi jumps all the time like a rabbit.

I have a streetlight in front of my house that used to go on and off throughout the night. It drove me crazy. Thankfully, the utility company switched out all the bulbs for LED bulbs last year, and it hasn't been a problem since then.

@DianneN I love the fact that they switched to LED, which uses less electricity and fixed the flickering problem, but I don't like how much brighter the LED bulbs are. The streetlight is in front of my house and lights up the spare bedroom at the front of the house like the 4th of July.

That would cause vertigo or a migraine if that happened to me. Good thing the utility company switched to LED bulbs. We have NO lights on our street at all except our own around the house. It’s pitch black at night.

I would say to quit looking out that window. But at least no one should be walking up the driveway at night in the winter and a card headlights would light their way enough. We had high winds here too.

In my line of vision. Long enough driveway to need lighting. Hubs turned them off. We can put them on manually if need be.

They look like globes, but are more lantern like. They have already been adjusted. Before that, they went on ever time a car rode by. . Off now until the end of March.
