I didn’t get a lot of photos of swimmers diving into the pool. For one thing, I had to keep out of the way of the officials. To me, some weren’t particularly good at diving but they’re still mostly quite young. The person in the top left photo is competing in a backstroke event. To begin this race, the swimmers are in the water and face the wall. They hold onto bars with their hands and brace their feet against the stand. When the hooter sounds, they launch themselves backwards. Some arch their backs a lot and may travel a third of the length of the pool under water. Lower right, you can see that none of those diving have their legs together which I think would be the preferred method. Lower right and left, the swimmers are competing in a 100-metre race. They will turn at the far end of the pool and when they are close to finishing their 100-metres, the people you see sitting behind the stands will be standing waiting with their stop-watches to record the times. Each lane had three people taking the time and the three times were averaged out. Lower left, you can see two women with blue shirts and white hats. They are club officials making sure everyone starts in the correct manner. There is probably only one more swimming post to come and that will show some of my failures.

Yes I think the legs should be together when diving

@JudyEv It takes practice. How many age categories are there?

@rakski We didn't have a program but I think maybe age groups were every two years - maybe under 6, 6-8, 8-10, etc but that's only a guess.

The older swimmers seemed to be better positioned.

Nice photography. Organisers seem not to have provided you proper place to do the photography of athletes in action. The once you could take are very good. Your photographic skills are on display here.

Thank you. We had free access up and down the sides of the pool so that was good.

@JudyEv Yes that is understandable but to have good pics there should be some good position to shoot from.

Nice captures! My boys were both competitive swimmers and must have done everything well. I’m still dusting all their trophies and medals. They don’t want them, but I sure do.

Dad had a lot of silver trophies from sheep competitions but he wasn't very keen on cleaning them.

Thanks. The backgrounds are a bit cluttered but there is nothing you can do about it.

@JudyEv Well there is a recreation center not too far from here, but its been all shut up you know locked down and all. But even so Judy, it is not as I used to swim you know out in the fresh clear water. You know it is not the same and I am wary of going to that rec center here anyway. I went once and it was a bunch of old fuddy duddies lol staring at me. Oh yes I am sad that things have changed for you too, I understand

Do you not have anywhere to swim or is it just something you've had to give up? I miss my driving ponies too. It's sad sometimes what changes occur as we age.

Thanks. I had to stay out of the way of a timing device on one side and a pole on the other so it got a bit tricky.

They can be very exciting. Some of these events had very close finishes too and the crowd would be roaring. Very exciting.

Great pictures. It's a shame they didn't have a place where photographers could take pictures with out being in the way of the officials.

I had a friend that could jump in and propel themselves a 1/3 of the pool underwater (less drag than breaking the surface). Amazing abilities - great shots!

In freestyle, they had to break the surface within x metres (can't remember the figure) but in other events you'd think they were never going to surface.

I’ve never investigated but watching swimming in the Olympics and whatnot makes it seem like they’re trying to jump as far as they can into the pool to make it less distance to swim!

There were a few adults swimming as well and they, and the older children, would sometimes go a third or more of the pool underwater. One guy went almost the whole way. In freestyle, they had to break the surface within a couple of metres. I can't remember the figure.
