Pork Hunks In The Crockpot

Whenever I buy whole, sliced pork butt, usually when it is on sale for somewhere around $1.49 per pound, I always get what I tend to call "oddball hunks" on either end. The middle section is fine for "steaks," but the ends are just big hunks of meat not really suitable for much practically. I could cut them up into chunks for stir fry, stew, or soup. But they're pretty fatty ends. So, usually I just eventually put those into the crockpot and cook them that way. For this batch I just kept it simple. Set the pork butt hunks into the crock and drizzled some barbecue sauce on them. Then I seasoned them with a spice mixture I made a bunch of the last time I smoked a brisket. Opened a packet of onion soup mix and tossed that in there. Then I poured on heavy with some more barbecue sauce. It has begun to cook as we speak, and should be fork tender, and something like pulled pork when all is said and done. I probably will not shred it, though. Just going to eat it the way it is with some sides I have not decided on yet. What's going on your dinner table tonight?

@porwest I wish my books were doing very well. The two frenched rack of lambs are courtesy of my mother-in-law. We ate one yesterday and will fry one up today.

Sounds delicious. I'm sick, so my dinner consisted of some chicken noodle soup. I'd much rather have what you're having. At least I still have my appetite.

@porwest Thanks Jim. Yeah, being sick sucks. Being sick with Covid is even worse.

@porwest It's strange but it never occurred to me before that someone would be interested in what I bought for my dinner - apart from Vince of course. lol

@JudyEv I mean, if I am sitting in a room and someone says "I went out and got something for dinner," I would be inclined to ask, "What did you have?" lol

I am a sucker for Subway club sandwiches with oil and vinegar, and sometimes it's better if I wait to eat it because all of that oil and vinegar soaks into the bread and marinates the meat. Good eats.

That makes great seasoning. Just ate a late breakfast. Leftover pizza later.

Butt??? LOL. Couldn't resist. Hope your pork butt turns / turned out well. We had pizza tonight for something quick because we got things done around the house and did not want to have to cook after all that.

A big chunk of pork in the crock pot goes a long way. I made one not too long ago . . . I divide and freeze 'em . . . it can be used for so many meals. Our dinner . . . we're bbq-ing up ahi tuna and beef steaks !

That sounds very good, I always like making meals in my slow cooker, I had rice, beans and some tomatoes fried up on a pan with some soy sauce.
