How are you with directions or instructions?

I don't have a problem stopping and asking directions when I'm driving, nor do I mind looking at instructions when I'm putting something together that I bought in a box. It's when I'm cooking that I lack that same approach.
I made myself kolrabi linguine with butoni pesto and discovered the pesto shouldn't be heated. It should only come to room temp. But I don't like room temp foods I like mine hot. Well the kolrabi was hot enough to heat the pesto somewhat. (I'm sure I've heated the pesto previously when I've had it not realizing is not best that way. I don't know about bottled pesto whether that's the same or not?)
Years ago I made a noodle dish from a packet and didn't read the instructions well. I was supposed to boil it in water, drain and then add milk and the seasonings. I was going to boil it in the milk. That didn't work well at all.
What about you? Do you tend to follow instructions or directions or only for some things?

Well hot pesto is really horrible and the fact that it was a ready made by Butoni surely did not help to make it taste better. The basil loses all its fragrance if you heat.
I follow instructions only for things I do not know and I try for the first time.

@MarshaMusselman I always make my own, Buitoni is Italian, some people say that their sauces are good, I tried a couple and I did not like at all.

Butoni is the only one I've tried recently that I like. I've never tried making my own before. Years ago there was a brand that I enjoyed but I never wrote down the name of it.
Do you make your own, Anna?

It depends... If it is something new to me/Pretty, then directions get followed. After we are sure we did it right, we might make changes to suit our tastes. (Usually, we like more onion and garlic than most recipes call for and even add them to foods most people wouldn't use them in. *shrug* It's to suit our tastes, not theirs.)
If the recipe is something we fix often, then we may follow directions and we may not.

Do you ask for directions while driving or when putting something together with a lot of nuts and bolts?

@MarshaMusselman I use a GPS while driving so don't need to ask directions. Before I had GPS, yes, I'd stop and ask directions... and usually get more lost before giving up and going back home.

@DaddyEvil that's not helpful to be even more list after asking for help. I've asked before and the person didn't know the area good enough. Maybe once gps came around the people we used to ask use they gps so they don't have to know where they're going ahead of time.

That's my problem. If it's wait and make it a few times first that would be better. But I don't always remember.

You might be the only one. Is this when cooking too?

@MarshaMusselman You said it right. I am referring to cooking. I am not good at cooking so I need instructions from a cooking book recipe.

Maps can be hard. I use them asking with maps I get off the internet. If I'm going someplace where I need to be there on time I'll do a further away map and then closer and closer. It helps.
