Struggling to unite even when a common enemy stalks us

It is over a year since we have been under attack and our lifestyle has been upended. We were as usual at each other’s throats and it is nothing new to us. The common folks have no issues as they are busy earning a living. Of course, there are the few who gain from threats and wars. It is for their personal gain only and nothing to do with the welfare of the vast majority who want to left alone. We are given breathers by this pandemic and soon we are back to our old ways. As we struggle to free ourselves and get back to life as usual, a few are waiting with their own ax to grind. It should be a different world as the long shadow of the pandemic will leave its mark but then new self-created issues are waiting to crop up to keep us on the edge. That is a tragedy. It is said man proposes, god disposes, but what is more certain seems to be majority proposes and a minority disposes for their benefit. I hope we have a new dawn after this crippling pandemic with not only the virus but also the selfish few send packing. The latter have been more of a threat to the peace-loving majority. It is time to show them their place – oblivion. Is it wishful thinking? Image: Unity from Pexels

Your theme of this post is so very applicable at this moment in time. It is horrid the way people are against each other from time immemorial and will continue this way no matter the common enemy.

We talk of love but then our action is the opposite - quite an irony. We go against the very basics. At the grass root level love is palpable but then we soon grow out of it due to a few manipulating our agenda.

@Shiva49 I agree 100%. The manipulators are devils to humanity.

@RebeccasFarm They seem to call the tune, set our agenda, keep us under their thumb. Democracy and freedom are under their vice grip - looks like.

I feel that the pandemic has taught me patience, and how long to hold my patience. I see others not holding their patience and that is okay, they are having a mini breakdown, and everyone seems to get their turn. I hope that we all become more forgiving and patience thru this and that we retain these qualities.

This came out of the blue and we are on emotional roller coaster to different levels. I feel restrained but console myself the whole world is in the same boat. The pandemic should not be wasted; it should not be life as usual. We need to turn a new leaf for the better. Some good have happened for sure.

The pandemic has made it very obvious that none of us has much control. Maybe it will be a wake up call

Yes, we are more vulnerable than other species as we can be laid low more easily than others. We have had time to ponder about the very basics that sustain life and get our priorities right.

Hold hope close to your heart, it is never amiss. Even wishful thinking has it's place in the scheme of things.

In some ways, though, we are always united. We are all on the same planet, we all breathe the same air, and we all have similar bodies, emotions, wants, likes, and dislikes. In one hundred years time, this happenstance now will be but a blip, in the history of mankind, or will it? Why is the world like it is right now? The world is always itself, moving through space. The ones on it change their faces and costumes from time to time, but to the planet, they are like ants on its surface, neither here, nor there. There is more here going on than for just human life, and human life will not go on without the world, so we see here the real dependency which should be taken seriously.

@Shiva49 At least most of the fighting is inhouse now, mind-stuff, or underhanded cheating, fleecing of resources. One aspect that has improved, is that the ones in charge, are not now killing willy-nilly those under them, or treating them as slaves. We do have basic rights now, at least, and things like medical help are much better than a few hundred years ago. We don't burn witches at the stake anymore, either. (At least, in the Western world, the more modernised countries, this is true. Some countries, though, are still running way behind the rest in their granting of Human rights allowances, for every individual in that country.) There are some good people working in research areas still. It is not their fault, they have worked hard to come up with vaccines for us all.

@innertalks I agree Steve, the vast majority are good people with good intentions, with a life focus to benefit others. They are the builders. On the other side are the destroyers stoking fires of dissent, making biological weapons, and it is even said this pandemic is due to such vicious experiments. What is behind such pursuits? It is obviously one-upmanship, primeval instincts to subjugate the rest with power and threats. These are the acts of a few evil among us who seize power and soon dictate their terms. The good is left to fight a rearguard action rather than preempt the few with evil motives. Time for the tide to turn, maybe, with some outside help - this pandemic has come as jolt and a bolt from the blue.

Yes Steve, I recall a documentary about how the planet will fare without us. In a couple of centuries the last vestiges of our existence would disappear with others living happily ever after! Obviously, we have a higher role to play but we are dreadfully falling short. We could make this place a heaven on earth but we make it hell instead due to our division and intolerance. What for all these horrible weapons that are enough to destroy all life many times over. Unless we agree on the very basic of coexistence, we will spiral out of control to our doom.
