Today I had my doctor's appointment, and it had to have been one of the worst I have ever had. It started yesterday when the receptionist called to confirm my appointment for today. She told me they had 1:20 written down, when we had 1:30 written down. Okay, fine. Ten minutes... no big deal. I can handle that. Tell George, it's all good. Today, get there five minutes early. George goes in to sign me in, comes back and gets my chair out of the van. So far so good. He goes to get something out of the van and I wheel myself onto the sidewalk. A lady holds the door open and asks if I can get over the threshhold. Okay, fine. Pop a wheelie , bang my hand on the door. All good. No issues. Random patient in the waiting room asks us where our masks are. Informs us they won't let you back without them. My husband butts in, informs the man that it's fine. I go in without a mask all of the time (went back in September) Guy shuts up. Nurse makes a comment, but lets it go. We go back in and that's where things get interesting. Instead of coming to take my vitals, the nurse leaves us alone and the doctor comes in. We're okay, have the usual conversation. Well.... it started out normal. The normal questions 'what meds are you on, what this that... Then we get into my bloodwork, and he starts explaining what Hemogloben is (yeah, I know what it is thank you) we go over my blood work. Then my weight enters the conversation and he asks the same questions twice. About working out and so on.... He also asked me to fill out paper work. Told him twice, I'm blind. Husband does it for me. George offers to get his glasses so he can fill it out for me. Doctor just says he'll do it, then ignoring me hands the clipboard over to have George sign my name for me. Hello, my hands work.... thank you.... We get into why I am in a wheelchair. Why I don't use a walker to walk and so on. He seemed to completely forget I have Cerbal palsy, and that walking long distances would be dangerous. Walking at home or to the mailbox or next door, fine. Walking the half mile to play Pokemon go, no. I'd be fine for a while, but could wind up destroying what's left of my knee and need it replaced. Nope. Not doing that. Yeah.... that really So doctor leaves. Fine. I'm okay with this. Nurse comes in tells me we're free to go. But.... still no vitals taken. So it's like hey, you know I never got my vitals taken. So he has to go get his kit to take my vitals. Just as one of my favorite quotes from Untold Stories of the ER You can't fix stupid.

You had some day. Boy, that sure was confusing. I wonder what they were thinking or rather probably they were not thinking,

I know. I think they are starting to get overwhelmed with the vaccine being out and attention on COVID again. And, I failed to mention this in my rant, but during the visit my doctor zeros in on my ankles that have dry patches on them. I've been going to him for, four years. And, today he suddenly decides to notice.

@RasmaSandra I completely agree with you. To think I have to do this again in may, and need to get my blood drawn (again) in April.

I've been seeing this doctor twice a year for about four-five years now. Started seeing him around the time we bought our house. And, I would love to say screw it and walk away, but I can't. Finding a doctor that takes my insurance is an exercises in patience.

@BelleStarr I would too, if I could. I mean most appointments tend to leave me annoyed. He, like many doctors, take one look at me, and zero in on the fact that I'm fat. That I'm over weight. That I border on the obesidity spectrum. Yet, they ignore that I have Cerbal Palsy. And, because my muscles work 3 to 5 times harder than an able-bodied person, doing day-to-day tasks, that working out is a challenge. Am I trying to be fat, no. I do go out every single day. Play Pokemon Go. I would swim when we lived in an apartment with a pool. Used the gym when I had access to one for free. I try to eat freequently, but struggle to do so because I was fat shhamed so much by my own family. Told I need to look super thin. Yet, my blood work looks good. I am taking pain medicine due to my CP and I'm taking colerstoal medicine for well, to keep my doctor happy. Everything else... my heart lungs and bloodwork come back good. So why complain about my weight?

That was a messed up day for you. Was the Dr and nurse different from who you've had before that they didn't know all this already? Glad you didn't get hurt going over the threshold to get into the place.

I scratched my nuckle, but I do that every time. And, no. Same. But, it's their job to ask the same questions each visit.

@MarshaMusselman I had filled out the form (or rather my husband did) during my last visit six months ago. I don't know why it was offered to me, again. And, when my husband fills out forms for me, he'll help me sign my name. All he has to do is give me the pen and show me where to sign. He'll even go as far as to tell me, how my name is printed. But, the doctor just didn't want to be bothered. And, my husband offered to get his glasses so he could fill out the form for me.

@kaylachan the same questions about your health yes but had the Dr given you the form to sign yourself before or is that not new?

you can't fix stupid. You also can't fix people not willing to pay attention to the situation of others. Sorry that happened.

Those are mistakes I would expect from rookie doctors or nurses. Not someone you've been seeing for a while.

I know. The scheduling thing, I completely understand that. When we walked into the waiting room and found out how packed it was, showed I wasn't the only one like that. The nurse who finally took my vitals, was the same nurse that had been working the time back in September. I just hope May proves to be better, and I can get back to my six-month visits.

George and I had to do our weekly shopping as well as pick up some meds for me. So we were gone from home easily a few hours. Had to do laundry last night but I was able to unwind after that.
