The Bride Of Yahweh

After his wife Gomer abandoned him for another man for the umpteenth time, the Prophet Hosea (750-722 B.C.) complained to God why he needed to pursue and to beg her to come home. He was tired of this hide and seek game. His wife was a prostitute, who had short-lived sexual relations with other men. Each time he found out that she was in dire situations of distress, the Lord admonished Hosea to go for the rescue and to bring her home.
The reason why so? Because Israel was the bride of Yahweh. No sacrifice in the temple could substitute for the love and faithfulness the Lord expected of His people. The Lord warned His people of apostasy, of abandoning Him and eloping with other gods. He was using Hosea's marriage as an example how they related to Him.
