Rant: The Final Verdict

Some of you had read my discussions about applying for a non-voiced job online, which is to teach by chatting with possible students in South Korea. I failed one of their exams because of time constraints this morning today. I was not able to complete the exam. Here are the flaws of this hiring process: For the first 15 minute exam (vocabulary), it needs to finish the exam with 60 questions, not before 15 minutes. For the second 30 minute exam (grammar), it also needs to finish the exam with 60 questions before 30 minutes. If you noticed, the duration is not being followed. Why it needs to finish the exams before the exact time duration. The rest of the exams is to check the speed in typing and an essay. I failed the second exam and still submitted these two requirements. I am not sure if they are going to reconsider my application. If not, it is still not a downfall. I will continue to hunt for another job online. What is your point of view about this company's hiring process? Image Credit: us.res.keymedia.com

I fail to see their reasoning in this matter. If they don't reconsider, the loss will be theirs as you are knowledgeable and the type of person they seek to hire. Of course, they don't know everything I know about you, either. Their loss is another company's gain.

We just need to move on. I think it is not a good company since it is not known in the ESL industry. I just like the idea of having this job and that is teaching online without speaking.

@Shavkat I can understand that. You're ready for a partial change in what you do online.

Yeah. Timed exams are tough sometimes, especially if you are not able to respond quick enough.

I did finish the second exam with the exact time. But then, they informed me that it is a failed one because it should be finished before the given time.

Timed exams are part of the hiring process. Nothing new here. Anyway, good luck and hope they reconsider your application.

I agree. It is a part of the exam online. But then, they included the reading of instructions with the allotted time. I am not expecting high hope for the reconsideration.

I think this is too much for the job. As if they are going to pay more than enough to have such strict time limit

@rakski You can still try it. I have not checked my email if they consider my application.

It seems an odd way to go about hiring people.

I find it weird, too. At least, I had experienced it and can give feedback if someone asked me about it.

@JudyEv I think I am not going to have any confirmation email from them. It means that I did not get the job.

i suspect you hire the same people over and over based on that. The imperfection alone has to drive them nuts over time.

I have never gone through such exams for a job, but it sounds "nuts". Is this typical? I don't understand it, but I suppose they have their reasons. They are pretty tough on "time"!

I agree. They tend to be so strict. Knowing that the company is not well-established in my country. I tried to research it and it seems the company has a red flag sign. Why? They do not have an official website, which I thought they have.

Since you have no say in the matter you will have to abide by those rules which you say do not make sense. Such is life Rufo. You have tenacity and that will take you places.

I agree. With this first impression of mine, I will not ask for reconsideration. From the very start, there is really something wrong. I am done with my current company's random changes of rules. Trying to find a better one than these companies.

Hi, I found on my twitter pages this tweet about children vaccines: Hoping to find a post if yours to share it. I'm not HR, si don't know about hiring process. Seems, very strict in the overview of it. Good luck finding a job.

I really cannot understand it, too. When doing some research about them, I find it odd that they are hiring people in Uganda. I am not saying bad about it, but it is not common to do this in other countries, except for native speakers who are in the USA, Europe, and the like.

That would stress me out. I don't really do well when I have to go against the clock. However, the process does make sense. They want to ensure whoever they hire can keep up with inconsistant schedules or whatever the job might throw at them.

I can understand that they need to do this. The only me puzzled me is why they did not give the allotted time to read the instructions. It is included for the exam per se.

It seems like they give really hard tasks to perhaps see who can or cannot pass and might not even want to hire too many people, I sure wish you the best of luck and hope you can be reconsidered or find a better company to work for

I think they are trying to control their applicants and it is better to find another one. It seems like they are that not organized with their hiring process.
