Tax good news/bad news

We had our tax preparation done yesterday. I was dreading that we might have to pay taxes this year. Bad news is we do have to pay some to the federal government. Good news is we get a refund from the state government. And since it's close to the same amount, it's a draw! So, a refund would have been great, but I'm happy not to owe anything. Now, where is that stimulus check? If you're in the US, how's your tax status? Good or bad?

I received a small refund for the Federal Tax we paid, we had nothing more to pay for the state taxes, we were happy.

@1creekgirl Better a little refund than to be asked to pay more.

I had to pay a small amount this year. It sucked, because that's two years in a row that I've had to pay, but at least this year the amount wasn't staggering. Went ahead and processed it and had the IRS take it out of my bank account. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my stimulus check. I have no real plans for spending it, but it will be nice to have the little extra money in the bank.

Glad you didn't owe a huge amount. I'm going to save my stimulus check for now.

@1creekgirl Yeah, I owed big time last year, so I was happy I was able to get that tax bill down significantly this year. Hopefully next year I can get back into refund territory.

We always pay in extra to try to avoid owing taxes at the end of the year. We usually get a refund on both state and federal too. Not much though.

Being self employed we always have to pay. Mike does ours each year, he's almost done with it. With the pandemic we shouldn't have to pay as much as in years gone by but still will pay some

Great that your tax returns balanced eat other out. We got our stimulus money on the 17th. We got a refund from the Fed, nothing owed to the State.

I always say if you are not getting a refund you are doing something right. Still stinks to have to pay anything at all when you do. But good when things sort of even themselves out as well. As for the stimulus check, it gets here when it gets here I guess. I don't need it. I get mine as a paper check.

It's funny how these things sometimes cancel each other out. But, as you say, it's good not to owe anything.
