The Case of the Missing Garbage Can Solved

This past Sunday hubby took out the garbage can as collection is Monday. After that our can went missing. Monday evening, we looked around the area to see if anyone else had taken it but it was nowhere to be found. The next day I spotted a garbage can that looked like ours in the neighbor's yard behind the cactus plant. I hadn't noticed it before. I looked at it and it resembled the one we had. The brand name was the same: Rubbermaid. It was gray and had a paint stain. Two of our other garbage cans that we use for recycling are also Rubbermaid, gray, and have a paint stain, so I thought this can was ours. However, what I found odd was that it had leaves and dirt in it. And there was even some water inside. It hadn't rained so there shouldn't have been any water in it. And ours was clean. Still, I took it home to show hubby later since I knew it was not our next door neighbors' as their cans are not round and this one was. When I showed it to hubby in the evening he told me it is not our garbage can. Ours is lighter. That's what I remembered as well. He gave it back to our neighbor, even though I told him it's not theirs. I went to look around again for our can but did not see it anywhere. Wednesday, I saw our neighbor and she told me the garbage can is not hers and said I can keep it. She put in our driveway. I wasn't going to keep it so just put it out on the street. After doing that I decided to look around the area for the third time. And that's when I spotted a Rubbermaid garbage can, light gray, empty, and clean. It was definitely ours. No one has one like that. I took it home and showed hubby. He confirmed it was ours. I guess the third time's a charm. I wonder who had taken it and where it was hidden. Weird that it took a third search attempt to spot it where I had looked twice before.

That's weird. I wonder if someone had and decided to kind of put it out somewhere where you could find it. Strange.

Our garbage can? Down the street and to the left, standing by the fence.

This is weird, I believe that you would have noticed if it was there before. I think someone took it and then they placed it there.

Found your post about the garbage can, I am glad you found it now perhaps you should either chain it, weigh it down, or put an alarm on it, I mean why would anyone want to take or hide a garbage can since they obviously did not use it.

It was windy that day so it could've blown away. But even if that happened someone had to have temporarily taken it as I couldn't see it anywhere. And I wonder why. I am thinking of putting our address on the garbage can. I've seen our neighbors do it.

The problem with just leaving a garbage bag out is that raccoons can get to it and tear it up. Happened to us. That's why I try not to do that. However, once the sucker got into our garbage can and did the same thing.

It's good that's it's now found. You'll probably never work out the story behind its disappearance.

Probably not. The important thing is the garbage can is back. And hopefully it will not disappear again.

I wouldn't put that much effort into finding a garbage can. I'd just go buy a new one.

It wasn't that much effort. Besides, looking for it increased my steps count for the day.

Was it windy the day that your can disappeared? Maybe someone picked it up.

It was windy Sunday but I don't remember if it was windy Monday, which was the day they picked up the garbage.
