Fact: A student failed me because of...

...disagreeing with him about tongue and its taste buds. We were talking about how food being determined and interpreted by our brains. One of our senses can determine the food if it is spicy and that is taste. Specifically, taste buds can distinguish the different tastes when eating a particular food and give signals to the brain to know the exact taste. It is fact that the student got angry and insists on his all-knowing opinions. I am sorry I can not agree with him. There is nothing new to me, he failed my evaluation. Do you agree with someone even if he or she is wrong? Image Credit: pennmedicine.org

If someone is wrong I just don't bother to keep the conversation going, I have the luxury of not being a teacher.

@rebelann I am not a teacher by profession. But I had trained to be one. I can be a professor in a graduate school since I obtained my master's degree before.

Since it will backfire on me, it is best to give the real facts to this student. Lately, the company is monitoring the virtual teachers' video classes. It will be the basis for questioning their credibilities. Honestly, my company is a fault-finder during this pandemic.

If someone's argument is wrong and he insists on it then I just keep quiet because sooner or later the truth is going to come out and prove him wrong.

Indeed. I simply kept quiet and let him talk. Then, I took the chance to move to the next page of our lesson. It is useless to argue with this kid and even calling himself a doctor.

@gamayngbaki I do not have the patience to deal with a person who is full of himself or herself and that includes this boy.

@Shavkat It's futile to argue with a kid who already calls himself a doctor even if he is not yet.

Arguing about the anatomy of a tongue. As far as I know, he is just being smarty-pants, which is not.

If someone is wrong and that person insists, I drop the conversation... after a while you cannot distinguish who is the fool and who of the two is right.

I agree. Sometimes I am getting tired of dealing with these students. Tonight, I had a 6 yeard old girl who is so rude and needs to be guided by her parents.

@LadyDuck Don't be worried. I choose to be attached to. Regardless, I am a good pretender not to be too close to them. Besides, I am just working to earn money from them. Speaking of loyalty, I am not with my company because of its flaws.

The best part is to be in silence. I do not want to keep on repeating my points of view. Since I am in the medical field, I do not want to dive to his level. If he is so pushy, he will regret it.

@Shavkat All I can say is everyone has to do what they can do and here with the bully above us it does not matter if I am quiet and trying to mind my own business or vocal he still makes our lives miserable. He is a bully with no conscience and I see what he is and he does not like that I see the truth and so he wants us out and makes our lives miserable in the meantime even though I have been here so much longer than him.

Sometimes it is just not worth the time to really engage in persons that are not in line with your thoughts. Unless you are in a debate then you should stand your own ground. But the way it is happening is just not worth it.

@Shavkat True it is difficult for an online school to really be on your side as they can lose their clientele and eventually lose money from them. So I guess you better not try to antagonize your students but give them the proper respect like business clients and apply the "The customer is always right" when dealing with them.

@rsa101 Indeed. I can still remember what the company's manager told me before. "Business is a business.' From then on, I realized that I am not supported by her because of this concern.

I never try to make it to a debatable situation. First thing is that it is not allowed. The company will not favor our side. It will be so useless to be stressed out in giving the real facts to them. I just let it go and move on.

Well, that's partically true. While our taste buds do help with taste, it's our sense of smell that tells our brains what food should taste like. Depending on the argument, both could've been right.

@Shavkat I always make sure to listen first and see when to give my opinion. There are those who makes things right even if they are wrong, however their way of escape is what I am after for because sometimes in adapting logic their explanation makes sense and funny.

It is my own practice to listen first and give a full blow of opinion. As much as possible, it should be in a professional way. If it is not logically said, I might laugh deep inside and burst it out when not being with this person.
