Friday's Urgent Care Visit

Friday was the day my hubby decided to finally go to urgent care. I had suggested last weekend that he send his doctor a note and ask for a doctor's appointment and/or if he needed to just go get a covid test. The nurse advised him to go to urgent care and get the Covid test.
Said nurse failed to give him an appointment, just told him they were open 7 days a week and to go anytime. Well, being the procastinator that he is, he planned to go on Friday. He was miserable Thursday so anxious to go and get it over with Friday. I asked him as we were driving to Baton Rouge if he was also going to see doctor while there. He said no. I pointed out that it only made sense to get some medicine while he was there rather than wait until Monday and another trip into town. He agreed.
When we got to the urgent care clinic he was told to go to the drive thru testing site. We did. No other cars there, and no humans there but people were going in and out of the building. We wait. Finally he rolls down the window and inquires to the same man who told him to drive around and wait. Turned out he gave us bad information. The Covid team had left--as in off for the day 15 minutes before we got there. So he calls his dr.'s office to see where else he can go since his doctor was out for the day. He was told to go to another urgent care facility.
This facility was about 3/4 full according to the parking lot, but he went on in and I sat in the car vs. being around sick people. He got the quick result test and results in about an hour after getting there. After a negative test, he didn't have to wait long to see a doctor there. He got a prescription to clear all the congestion and a nasal spray. I don't remember the name of the medication but it had a label that said "may cause drowsiness." That was true as he slept most of the day yesterday, went to bed early and is now sleeping in. It's almost 10 a.m. and he is still not up--even with coffee delivered to bedside.
I was glad the test was negative; that meant that I was spared from having to have the test myself.
I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday! We will be at home today taking it easy.

Glad to hear the test was negative, but sorry to hear about the ordeal you had to go through to get the results.
I'm still going through a lot of coughing, but the phlegm coming up is perfectly clear, so that's a good sign. I'm also very congested, which I haven't been at all the entire time I've had Covid. I'm wondering if I'm having a secondary infection, or if my allergies are getting the best of me despite staying cooped up inside the house? I have pretty much stayed in bed the entire day today sleeping. I didn't think I was that tired, but all this sleep snuggled up in my warm blankets has felt great.

@kareng I'll probably just have my daughter bring me some over the counter medicine for the congestion. She's been picking up enough prescriptions for me already. She's such a good daughter, doing everything she can to help her dad.

@moffittjc That is awesome that she can do that for you! Tomorrow hubby is insisting on stopping for Chinese food while we are in Baton Rouge. He has been wanting some of the hot and sour soup to clear up the congestion! We tried to pick some up Friday on way home and I called the order in and she told me 40 minute wait. We were almost there and I've never had to wait that long before. So we went on home. He was a little upset but he wanted to get home too.

@Hannihar Oh I'm sure she is still working there. She is very rude. It is marked in my chart that she should only check me in if she is the only one/nurse there on that day. The last time she checked me in she was more pleasant, but did make the comment of how my blood pressure shoots up when checking in. I wonder why?? For a long time she wasn't there so she may have been suspended. Nursing is not a field to go into if you are a rude person.

Tis the season. Last year I wrote “allergies” on my mask because it’s so common to be sneezing and wheezing this time of year. Hope he’s feeling better soon.

Why do they make the testing and the shots so hard to get? They always say to drive through but some people can't drive or don't have cars. The hours are strange and inconvenient. Then they wonder why people don't go.
I am happy for you both that he did not have the dreaded 'rona.

I put the blame on the nurse he talked to. She could have given him the hours. This urgent care is run by the same clinic we go too. She was't very helpful at all.
You have a point there about the drive thru's though. I guess you would have to get someone to take you there.
